How we met

01/03/2010

Nicole's version: I knew of Jed my freshmen year of high school because he played on the basketball team and I would see him in the gym since our practices often overlapped. We didn't actually meet until sophomore year when we hung out after school at a mutual friend's house (*shout out TT Brown*). From that point on Jed and I became best friends, but we didn't date until after our freshmen year in college. Growing up and together as friends first has meant the world to me. 10/10 recommend dating your best friend! Jed's version: Nicole and I became friends our sophomore year of high school. She asked me to winter formal that year and it was one of the best dances I've been to (she was a great date!). I always thought she was pretty and as we became closer as friends, I had the biggest crush on her but I was too much of shy little boy to ask her out on a date. I finally grew the cojones to ask her out in the short time of 3 years during our freshman year of college and its been the best decision of my life. P.S. it is possible to get out of the friends zone guys ;)

The proposal

12/26/20

Jed's version: The original plan for the proposal was for the two of us to go on a trip somewhere in Asia to pop the question, but as we all know COVID had other plans. Instead I chose to do it at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. Nicole and I both went to San Diego State University and this was a place we would love to go to and have little picnic dates and just unwind after any exams we just had. The pictures may make it seem like everything went smoothly but that was not the case behind the scenes. I decided to put candles in the shape of a heart but the seagulls thought they were food so as we were setting them up, they keep trying to eat them and fly off with them. So my parents and I were frantically scaring them off as we tried to make a perfectly shaped heart. Luckily they saw how stressed I was getting and settled down long enough for Nicole to come. Nicole's version: the week before the proposal I started getting so many *unintentional* hints of something happening soon. It was then my mom's birthday and I was CONVINCED nothing was happening that day except to celebrate my beautiful mama. My siblings went rouge in the morning and I was so frustrated to be left alone to get everything ready for my moms day by myself! The family plan was to go to sunset cliffs in san diego (which is a spot only significant to Jed and myself, not my family) to "take pictures" for my mom's birthday. After a quick car nap and some food in my stomach, I felt much better lol. When we got to the cliffs we walked a while to find the perfect spot to take pictures (while I'm still very confused why we were walking so far to take a pictures because it was all the same cliff and every vantage point looked the same.. ANYWAYS). Finally, far in the distance I spotted a heart with rose petals scattered all on the ground with the love of my life standing in the center. Then, everything else started to make perfect sense.
