Nick was embarking on his second season as a ski instructor in Breckenridge, Colorado when a girl "dolled up like Dolly Parton" came on the scene. Sonya noticed Nick right away. The kids at ski school adored him so he always had the most little yellow vested ducklings following him around. On New Year's Day she worked up the courage to invite him to join her out at "90s night". Nick stopped by and danced to a couple songs and then took off letting Sonya know that she should meet him at the bar down the street for "80s night". They danced the night away and the spark was lit. Skiing together the next day solidified the flame and they've been skiing, dancing and adventuring together ever since.
At the end of their first ski season together Nick and Sonya, along with 20 of their closest ski friends, traveled to Moab, Utah for the camping trip of a life time. Both of them had never been anywhere like this wild, waterless-undersea, colorful canyon mecca. The trip was powerful and at the end of every ski season since they've traveled back with friends old and new, exposing more people to this magical world. Nick and Sonya had spoken about the trip being a kind of new year or fresh start because as the long winter ends, the ski boots come off and they experience the first days of shorts and bare feet. This year Sonya invited some of her closest friends and roommates to their traditional Moab trip. After 3 beautiful days in the desert Sonya (slowly) popped the question- at sunset, on the edge of the cliffs dropping into the river valley, as lightning and a rainbow shimmered in the distant sky. Upon their arrival back to camp friends had decorated the rocky campfire with twinkling candles and they all danced the night away under the stars. Nick was not to be outdone by this. So, after an incredible roadtrip from Colorado up the California coast, they found themselves at an enormous and empty beach in Newport, Oregon. After running around on the beach, playing frisbee and watching a breathtaking sunset, Nick dropped to his knee for an intimate proposal. Is this mushy enough yet?
