We met the summer leading into my senior year of high school. We had been hired at Qdoba Mexican Eats in Sheridan at the same time and did our training together. From the moment I saw him, before we even spoke a word to each other, I knew that in some way he would be special to me. I could just feel it. I wasn't sure if he was going to be my best friend, my confidante, or my soulmate; turns out it was all three and so much more. After months of just being co-workers, he finally asked me on a date. It was in between the lunch rush; I was dicing tomatoes for the salsa and he was cooking chicken on the grill. I accidentally hit him with the tomato juice which prompted him to turn around. Then he ask me if I knew of any good movies playing at the theater. We eventually came to an agreement about what movie to see, and the rest is history.
After a year like 2020, I wasn't very hopeful of anything good happening that Christmas. We started Christmas morning at my parents' house opening gifts. Michael's family has a tradition known as "Dirty Santa" that he introduced to my family; the tradition is that one member of the family is that year's "Dirty Santa" and receives one of two options, 1) a gag gift or 2) a very special gift. The "Dirty Santa" gift was the last to be opened and it was then that I was told I was that year's recipient. Okay, now here's a little backstory to why Michael asked me this way: For our fourth dating anniversary, Michael gifted me a power outlet attachment for our new apartment, which, don't get me wrong, was very practical, but also not a typical "anniversary gift". I laughed and made fun of the present, but ultimately accepted the gift. I never let him live it down though, and every gifting after made a joke about the power outlet. So, here's how he proposed: He prompted the gift by telling my family the story of the power outlet attachment and as I unwrapped the box, it was the packaging of a power brick. We all laughed at the joke, but as I opened the packaging, I noticed it was not a power brick, but rather a ring box. The laughter suddenly turned to speechless awe as Michael got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said YES! And, Now here we are getting ready to celebrate our love with you!
