It's About Damn Time

Mika’s Version: I first saw Brett when I was a new grad nurse transporting a patient to another unit and a VERY cute nursing student caught my eye. I dropped the chart off and tried to “make eyes” at him but he didn't seem to notice. After dropping the patient off in their room I actually managed to make eye contact with the cute, albeit oblivious nursing student. I had to find out who he was! It wasnt until weeks later that I thought to ask the nursing student on my unit if she knew who the mystery man was and she did! She instantly went to work setting up a way for us to meet. We were introduced at her birthday party. He tried to woo me with his terrible dance moves but I was unimpressed. He resorted to buying me and my friends a round of Touchdowns (1 part vodka, 2 parts "I’m 22 and will drink anything") which seemed to do the trick. By the end of the night he’d gotten my number. A month and several breakfast burritos later, we were a couple and the rest is history! Brett’s Version: I was a student in clinical when I caught Mika checking me out. She was staring so hard she basically pushed the patient she was transporting down a stairwell, tripped over a mop bucket and never broke eye contact. She got up and started pushing the mop bucket, it was cute. She claims that I embellish the story of how we met more & more every time I tell it, but my version is totally how it happened...mostly. Anyway, she ended up asking our then, and still, close mutual friend, Sarah Rizzo, if she knew who I was and could set us up on a date -- Thanks again, Sarah! We still owe you a baby named after you or a Starbucks gift card or something! We ended up meeting at Sarah's birthday get-together where we drank the finest redbull & vodka shooters money can buy. But it was really my dancing that won her over (I'm such a good dancer, so much rhythm, vodka told me so). We started dating shortly thereafter and we've been traveling the world & falling in love & being all extra ever since!

Brett knew that France was the #1 destination on Mika's "must visit" list, so when they planned her post-graduation trip there he knew it would be the perfect time to propose. After 6 years, Mika had stopped expecting a proposal on any big trip so Brett knew he had the element of surprise on his side. A few days into the trip, after a full day of walking and drinking wine at Versailles, Brett was insistent that they make one more stop on the way back to the Airbnb to visit Parc Buttes-Chaumont. He dragged Mika all around the park secretly looking for the best place to pop the question. He finally found a quiet dock with a beautiful view of the iconic gazebo on a hill and he knew it was the place. Now to find someone to take a video of the proposal, but how to do that when you only speak 3 words of French! Luckily for Brett, there was a guy on the dock he could ask but he didn't speak a lick of English. Brett left Mika waiting on a park bench and attempted to subtly mime to the Frenchman a proposal but the Frenchman thought he was trying to sell him the engagement ring and started counteroffering a price! Needless to say these two would probably lose every game of charades they participate in since Brett was never able to successfully act out what he was trying to do and the Frenchman never settled on a price he liked for the ring. Time for plan B. Brett abandoned the Frenchman and frantically started searching for anyone who could understand English. By this time Mika was starting to get suspicious. By the time Brett convinced someone to come take the video Mika would have been more surprised if Brett WASN'T proposing. Regardless, when Brett got down on one knee Mika was ecstatic (even if he forgot to put the ring on her finger). She immediately said "yes"! The wedding will be almost exactly 7 years after Mika and Brett started dating, so it's about damn time!
