A fav of Marly's, the Saugatuck Chain Ferry, "Diane", is the ONLY working chain ferry in this US of A. Pretty special, huh? The chain ferry is run daily during the summer by local hard working young people. They will pull you across the river with seemingly little effort, allowing you to walk to Oval Beach right on Lake Michigan. If you're lucky they might even let you toot the horn. *See picture for a look at Marly absolutely filled with excitement before her first ever long-awaited chain ferry ride.
They've got hard cider, they've got charcuterie boards with honey from their beehive, they've got lawn games, they've got goats and pigs. Take a look at the photo at the top of this webpage. That catalogue worthy, sexy bunch of pals are walking the grounds of Virtue. Doesn't it look like we were having a blast? That's because we were.
See Saugatuck from the Kalamazoo River on a retired ski boat. Our personal favorite is Laverne, pictured above. She's a 1958 Skimaster from Ft. Worth, TX. They also have pontoons and donut boats for bigger groups.
