After moving from Oahu to Maui at 14, Malia's first friend in her new school was Viola. Malia quickly fell in love not only with Viola, but also, Julie- her mom, and lo-and behold, her handsome surfer older brother, Hank. She became a staple at their home in Makawao and tagged along for as many Hana weekends as possible. Throughout Malia's high school, she and Hank shared laughs, surfs, and lots of music. Hank, a handsome fella in the peak of his surf career, was going to be no easy catch, Malia knew. She figured the long game was the call for this one so they remained "mostly friends" for years, while Malia patiently waited for Hank to mature. When Malia and Viola needed a tennis coach to sign off on PE credits, Hank was the guy. When they needed a surf coach for the same reason, they also knew a guy. When Hank needed a place to stay on the North Shore for the winter contests, well Malia's dad so happened to live there. Safe to say their lives became everlastingly entangled in the most satisfying of ways. You may hear Hank claim he was the "creepy older brother" to his little sister's friend, but alas, Malia was silently waiting years before him. As many good things begin, one fateful night at a random Hana graduation party when Malia was home from college, she and Hank were awaiting the return of Viola from an escapade of some sort (as one does). Maybe it was the quiet romance of waiting in the truck for hours, the constant stream of "chee huuus" happening in the background or maybe stars were just perfectly aligned that night, but from then on, Malia and Hank were no longer "mostly friends". 12+ years, many surf trips and new homes later, Malia, Hank and Moku are SO EXCITED to celebrate the long magical journey of their love with all of you!
