The classic millennial love story: boy swipes right on girl, girl swipes right on boy, and the rest is history. Tim and Lucy matched on Hinge in January 2019, traded messages and texts consistently for several weeks, and didn't meet in person until February 17, 2019. Lucy wondered why Tim was taking so long to ask her on a date. She was worried Tim was waiting to ask her out to have a Valentine's Day first date (which would’ve been awkward!), but Lucy clearly didn't know Tim, yet. In reality, it was ski season and he was spending every spare moment skiing. But as luck would have it, President's Day weekend was a blackout date on his ski pass. Upon meeting at a cocktail bar called "The Interval" for their first date, Lucy charmed Tim with her intellect and sociability, and Tim's presence "just felt right" to Lucy. Four hours flew by, and eventually the bar closed. Tim gallantly walked Lucy to her city bus stop and waited with her until her bus came. More dates ensued, they fell in love, and here we are today!

Tim perfectly orchestrated the proposal. So much so that the morning of, Lucy thought to herself, “Today would be a perfect opportunity for Tim to propose. I wonder if he’s thought of that?" Just in case, she didn’t wear her neon pink shoes that day so they wouldn’t steal the focus in any photos. It was a gloomy Saturday morning and Tim had to work the first part of the day, supervising the dismantle of his tower crane. After work, he picked up Lucy from her regularly scheduled hair appointment and they headed to their favorite sandwich spot in San Francisco, Golden Gate Market & Deli, to pick up sandwiches for a late lunch picnic in their go-to spot, Crissy Field. Their friends, Hunter and Crystal, met them with their dog, Ellie. The group had a delicious lunch and threw the ball around with Ellie for a while. Finally, the sun came out, at which point Tim declared, "I need a photo of us for my birthday." With his birthday just a few days away, that seemed logical. He handed Crystal his phone to take a photo, and Lucy and Tim posed with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. After a few photos taken and goofy faces made, Tim turned to Lucy, got down on one knee, and proposed! Lucy clenched her fists to contain her excitement while waiting for Tim to finish saying, "I love you. Will you marry me, Lucy Carter Dawson?". She then exclaimed, "I knew it! Yes!!" (She did not, in fact, know it.) Celebrations ensued, popping champagne with Hunter and Crystal, video calling family, and more champagne popping once Tim's brother, Michael, arrived, followed by group dinner and drinks at a local favorite, Lillie Coit's. This proposal was additionally made possible by the following people: Lucy's sister, Martha, and friend, Nell, who made sure Lucy actually did her nails during virtual movie night with them the night before and kept Lucy from painting them neon blue as she wanted to (how they achieved this without giving anything away is another story); Alex and Kathryn Miller, who unknowingly drove the ring from Chicago to San Francisco; and Tim's parents and sister Katie, who figured out how to get the ring from the jeweler in Chicago to Tim in San Francisco without anyone knowing.
