“If we get married, I’m keeping my last name,” Madison told Ryan after they sang a stunning rendition of "You Belong With Me," during Madison's first visit to Chicago. It was the first time they hung out and, really, had spoken at all other than a conversation at Ryan's law school graduation about James Harden. Scientists continue to search for answers for what it was that won Madsion over that night, whether it be Ryan's angelic voice or his willingness to sing Taylor Swift, the answer may never be known. What is known is that night, Madison and Ryan hit it off. After strategically getting Madison’s number at karaoke, Ryan tried endlessly in the weeks that followed to win Madison over with his wit and charm. And, it worked, Madison eventually added Ryan as a Snapchat friend and he knew that meant she liked him. After daily texting from over 1000 miles away in Houston, TX, Madison planned another trip to Chicago, but slowly realized this time most of the trip would be spent with Ryan (sorry Lindsey!). The second Chicago trip included another award-winning karaoke performance from Ryan and Madison, which sealed the deal for both of them. Not long after, Ryan and Madison made things official and decided to embark on the journey of a long-distance relationship. This was despite every airport Uber driver telling them it would definitely fail. Motivated to prove countless Uber drivers wrong, Madison and Ryan continued to visit one another in their respective cities for three years. Madison loved Chicago (Sidewalks! Trains! Seasons!) and Ryan tolerated Houston (Sunburn! Humidity! Sweating!). Eventually, Madison and Ryan decided they needed to take the next step and spend more than 48 hours together at a time. So, Madison moved to Chicago and brought their angel pup Charlie with her. Living together allowed the two to grow closer quickly and explore their passions together. They traveled all over, attended many disappointing Philadelphia sporting events, and sang along to their favorite bands. In September of 2022, they took their most important trip yet - a two-week vacation in Europe, with the last stop in Iceland. After stopping at a tomato soup farm that Ryan had been dreaming of, they went to go see a waterfall. As Madison looked out in amazement, Ryan got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. Madison's response was exactly what Ryan hoped to hear: "Did you ask my Dad?" But, then she said yes! Ryan and Madison are thrilled to continue their lives together as husband and wife and can’t wait to celebrate with, and thank, all the people who got them here. Cheers to a lifetime of karaoke, Sixers games, and Taylor Swift!
