John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
Key Largo’s John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park is one of a kind, offering an amazing glimpse into the underwater world. Renowned for being the country’s first undersea park, John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park encompasses an impressive 70 nautical square miles. While many visitors view the park’s colorful coral reefs and teeming marine life on a glass-bottom boat tour, one can get an even closer look by scuba diving or snorkeling. Canoeing and kayaking through the park's waters are popular activities; fishing is permitted in designated areas. Visitors can also enjoy walking on short trails through tropical hammocks, picnicking or swimming at the beach. The visitor center features several large saltwater aquariums filled with sea creatures, and nature videos are shown in its theater.
Key Largo Fisheries
Key Largo Fisheries is an old-time fish market. Fishing boats pull up to the dock to unload their catch. The Lobster, Stone Crab, and Fish are processed and placed right in our ice-filled display cases for you to see and take home. It’s that fresh. Locals have been coming here since 1972 to get the freshest fish anywhere. Dine at their on-site restaurant or visit the seafood market!
Wild Bird Sanctuary - Florida Keys Wild Bird Center
Mission: The Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of native and migratory wild birds that have been harmed or displaced; providing or locating a humane shelter for those birds that cannot be released; and educating the public towards the importance of coexistence with all wild bird species. Visit the non-releasable wild birds at the Wild Bird Sanctuary! Take a walk along the boardwalk, watch the sunset, see a pelican feeding, & more. HOURS: Mon-Sun Sunrise to Sunset
