Rob and Lindsay had heard about each other for years, thanks to mutual BFF Sarah Horvitz. But they hadn't met until Rob's 23rd birthday when Lindsay joined Sarah at his birthday party. They spent the evening chatting and dancing in Spencer Brennan and Kevin Tervala's kitchen, both thinking that the other was SUPER cute. It was a shame then that Rob almost immediately left on a four-month road trip with Sean Griffin and they wouldn't get to meet again until May.
Lindsay and Rob finally got to go on a date on Cinco De Mayo, 2012. They wore fake mustaches to ease the tension and shake first-date nerves, and they looked great doing it. Before going to dinner in Dupont, Lindsay got to meet a Rob's parents, and then after dinner, a whole group of Rob's oldest friends- diving head first into Rob's life. They saw each other for the next four days, climbing trees, eating food, and visiting with friends. And then, again, Rob left the DC area for four months. This time to travel with Sean around Southeast Asia. But this time, Rob and Lindsay stayed in close contact. Exchanging over 100 emails in their time apart, getting closer despite the distance.
Rob got back from Asia in August and a month later asked Lindsay to be his girlfriend. No one was surprised. They all thought that they already were official.
After three years of dating, Lindsay and Rob decided that life needed a reboot. So without jobs, a home, or barely any money, they left Maryland and drove 1800 miles out west to Erie, Colorado. Rob and Lindsay stayed with Rob's uncle Guy and aunt Amy for a few days until they found an apartment in Louisville, and started their new chapter of living together in the most beautiful place in the world.
The scene: May 2020. 8 years of dating. Seven weeks of Covid-19 ravishing the world compounded with self-isolation, working at home, anxiety, depression, and fear. Rob: "Do you want to go for a hike?" Lindsay: "... I FORGOT THAT WAS EVEN AN OPTION!" They pack up the dog, the gear, the snacks and head up to Hermit Park to hike Krueger Rock (el. 9,400 ft). The way up is a struggle because of the previously stated seven weeks of being at home doing nothing. At one point Lindsay actually said, "I can't do it. Just leave me! You're better off without me!" Obviously Rob did not do that and they made it to the top. Lindsay ate lunch, and felt all-around much better about everything. So on the way back down, they stopped to take pictures at an outcropping of boulders. Rob sneakily set up his camera to record, then got down on one knee to ask Lindsay to marry him. After 8 years of dating, and a solid three years of waiting for this moment on every hike they'd been on, Lindsay could only respond with jumping and "Shut the **** up!!!" but did eventually say yes!
