In July 2021, Zack and I met while playing wingman (or wingwoman) for our friends. My best friend, Lexi, invited me up to the rooftop of my apartment building to meet a couple of guys. There was a firepit, warm summer air, and absolutely zero desire on my part to meet anyone new. I was already in pajamas, makeup off, and ready for bed. But you don’t leave your best friend hanging. So I went — thinking maybe one of these guys could be the one for Lexi. Zack was out that night at a concert where he was supposed to meet his coworker. He ended up going solo, but his coworker asked Zack if he would be willing to meet up with these two girls later. He's lived in Indy for a year at this point and thought he also had nothing to lose. So he went — not really knowing what to expect. Funny enough, Lexi and Zack’s coworker didn’t quite hit it off that night (everything happens for a reason). But we did. The conversation was effortless. We realized we had so much in common. In such a short amount of time, we learned a lot about each other and left that night knowing something felt different. Little did we know, that rooftop would become the start of everything. We didn’t exchange numbers that night. No dramatic goodbye. No big moment. But a few days later, Zack found me on social media (thanks again, Lexi), started liking my stories… and about a week later, he slid into the DMs. Our first date was at the Livery restaurant downtown Indy (highly recommend), and we picked up right where we left off. Three months later, we did something slightly bold (and very “when you know, you know”) — we moved in together testing all odds. The past four years have been full of growth — lots of laughs, career changes, loss, big dreams, and everything your twenties can throw at you. Through it all, we chose each other. Every time.
