Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Lamar Wallace and Mackenzie Howard
Whether it's your first time in DC or you're a lifer, we're excited to recommend places to visit and share a few of our favorite spots with you to check out during the wedding weekend ; )

Springfield Mall

Springfield Mall, Springfield, VA 22150

If you forgot something, can't decide where to eat, or want to have a little walkabout, visit the mall within five minutes of the hotels. FUN FACT: L got M's engagement ring here; we're both getting our wedding bands here.

Smithsonian Museums

1000 Jefferson Drive Southwest, Washington, DC 20560
, (202) 633-1000

If you haven't spent much time in DC, it's worth reminding that all 20 Smithsonian institutions and museums are free, beautiful, educational, and will definitely have something that interests you. Get your culture on! Some of our favorites are: Air and Space, Hirshhorn & Sculpture Garden, African American History, American Indian, Natural History, Renwick Gallery, and The Zoo.

The Monuments

2 15th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20024

If you are interested in a long walk and some history, check out the monuments on foot. Touring after dark is a treasured tradition for DC locals. FUN FACT: M's fav is the Jefferson Memorial. L's is the Lincoln.

Old Town Alexandria

Alexandria, VA

This historic neighborhood is great for walking around, shopping, eating, and sitting next to the water. There is a trolley for getting up and down King Street. FUN FACT: L+M had our first date in this neighborhood at Diya Indian restaurant. We had such a good time, we followed it up with getting engaged at another spot in Old Town called BRABO.

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts

2700 F Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20566
, (202) 467-4600

This iconic performing arts center is one of our favorites and worth a visit. There are free performances every day on the Millennium Stage at 6pm. FUN FACT: L+M went here on our 2nd date to see Leslie Odom Jr. sing with the National Symphony Orchestra.

National Harbor

Fort Washington, MD 20745

If you want to step into a casino, do some shopping at Tanger Outlets, hang at a lounge, hop on a ferris wheel, or find another slew of restaurants, the National Harbor and MGM casino has alla this. Bonus - it's only 15 minutes from Springfield.

The Wharf DC

760 Maine Avenue Southwest, Washington, DC 20024
, (202) 688-3590

If you want to dip a toe into DC but not fully submerge, visit The Wharf. It's on the southwest edge of the city with easy access from Springfield. This strip of restaurants, bars, performance venues, etc. has a lovely river walk (but terrible parking). FUN FACT: L+M have both worked adjacent to this neighborhood

Union Market

1309 5th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002

Feeling like a more adventurous visit into DC? Union Market in northeast offers a variety of experiences: pop up films, a music house, art installations, a big roof lawn for social events, and a ton of food options that range from regular restaurants to the mall style of the Market itself. Mackenzie highly recommends the brunch at St. Anselm! FUN FACT: We vetted the market as a potential wedding venue.

Calabash Tea & Tonic

2701 12th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20018
, (202) 248-1186

This Black-owned spot is unique to DC and a fantastic place to chill out. They have a huge selection of teas, tonics and some delicious pastry and snack options. FUN FACT: L approves of this place because of the vegan options; M approves because of the tea options. #drinkmoretea
