In the Fall of 2011, in the charming town of Ashland, Oregon, fate intertwined the paths of Kurt Langmeyer and Hanna Wisner. Kurt was cast in a play for which Hanna was the costume designer. The chemistry was instant, and on a fateful night in 2012, after a lively evening of karaoke at Paddy’s Pub, they shared their first kiss. Though drawn together, the universe knew the timing wasn’t right. Hanna moved to Chicago, and Kurt relocated to Seattle. Over the years, their long-distance friendship blossomed. Whenever Hanna visited family in Seattle, they always found a way to see each other. In 2016, Kurt prepared to make his grand move to New York City. Before his departure, he flew to Chicago, and the couple shared a romantic trip filled with city tours, fancy dinners, and laughter. Although they admitted they would be great together, Hanna was rooted in Chicago while Kurt dreamt of Manhattan. For a few years, referred to as “The Dark Times,” our couple lost touch. Then, in the Spring of 2022, Kurt reached out over Instagram. Hanna’s heart filled with excitement as they scheduled a FaceTime call to catch up. After hours of conversation, Kurt charmingly asked, “Well Hanna, if there’s a list of potential suitors, how do I get on that list?” To which Hanna replied, “Kurt, you are the list.” From that day forward, they spoke every day, starting a long-distance relationship. With Kurt in graduate school at Columbia University, he visited Chicago during school breaks, and Hanna visited New York City for the first time. Kurt graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2023. In the Spring of 2023, the couple moved in together into Hanna’s studio apartment in Chicago, embarking on their Midwest adventures. As fate would have it, Kurt’s grandmother’s home, his mother’s childhood home, in Champaign, Illinois, became a cherished place for Langmeyer family gatherings. It became their home base for weekend getaways, Christmas festivities, and birthday celebrations. Having made many friends and strong ties in Chicago, Kurt felt the proposal needed to happen at a venue that screamed Chicago. Harkening back to their first kiss after a night of karaoke, Kurt planned an elaborate proposal involving reservations at the romantic restaurants from 2016, organizing ten friends for the surprise event, planning an additional weekend of surprises, and scripting out a proposal speech during a karaoke version of “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. His love and creativity did not go unnoticed, gaining 1.4 million views on TikTok. Surrounded by wonderful friends, they promised themselves to each other and danced the night away. After two years together in Chicago, they are ready to be closer to family and make Seattle their home once again. They are beyond grateful to know each and every one of you and to have the ability to invite you all to celebrate their union together.
