There are some fantastic restaurants right near the Marriott/Residence Inn in Shockoe Slip - and nearby in Shockoe Bottom. Fans of seafood will love this excellent restaurant in Church Hill. One block from our house and directly across the street from Grisette, the food is absolutely delicious!
EAT: Chewy's Bagels
The most delish bagels around! Make sure to stop by for breakfast - but swing by early as they frequently sell out!
EAT: Cobra Burger
Award-winning smash burgers in Church Hill. 'Nuff said.
EAT: Grisette
One of our favorite restaurants, located just blocks from our house. Incredible wine list with delicious french-inspired cuisine.
EAT: Mary Angela's Pizzeria
Myke knew Kristen was a keeper when she said Mary Angela's was her favorite traditional pizza in RVA. We had our first date there, sharing a pie, and life has been pizza-riffic ever since!
DRINK: Jardin
For the wine fans, visit Jardin! An amazing wine bar located in the Fan neighborhood, it's owned by the same folks behind Grisette.
DRINK: Hardywood Park Craft Brewery - Richmond
A Richmond institution. Plus they host Punks for Presents shows! (But make sure you get the address right - there's another Hardywood that's about 30 minutes away).
DRINK: Blue Bee Cider
If cider is more your jam, visit Blue Bee! In Scott's Addition - and delicious!
DRINK (and play!): The Circuit Arcade Bar
In the popular Scott's Addition neighborhood, this bar has self-service beer and arcade games galore! Be sure to check out the Air Hockey table! It's a doozy!
VISIT: American Civil War Museum at Historic Tredegar and Brown's Island
Two floors of exhibits will take you on a journey from the very beginning of the Civil War to Reconstruction and beyond. Kristen is a huge history buff and loves exploring the museum. Myke likes taking funny photos with the cannons. After you finish exploring the museum, take advantage of the free parking there to take a walk down towards the river to explore Brown's Island and enjoy the beautiful views of the city as well as the cherry blossom trees! Brown's Island is a great place for a picnic. You can also continue from Brown's Island down the Potterfield (pedestrian) Bridge to cross the river.
VISIT: Carytown
Carytown is a fun place to walk and explore restaurants and shops. It's also where we met for our first date - pizza at Mary Angelas and drinks at Galaxy Diner! Also check out a few of our other faves! Stores: Mongrel, World of Mirth, LouLous, and the Toy Lair. Food/Drinks: Can-Can, Burger Bach, Home Sweet Home and Mom's Siam Thai.
VISIT: Dorey Park and Recreation Center
Our FAVORITE park - home to walking trails, a pond, playgrounds, dog parks and more! Located about 15 minutes from downtown.
VISIT: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden
Year-round beauty on a historic property with more than 50 acres of spectacular gardens. More than a dozen themed gardens include a Children's Garden and Treehouse, Healing Garden, Fountain Garden, Asian Valley and Victorian Garden. Kristen and Myke love visiting the gardens.
VISIT: Pocahontas State Park
About a 30 minute drive from downtown, but a great place to hike!
VISIT: The Poe Museum
Myke wouldn't be happy with this list if we didn't include some spooky elements. Edgar Allan Poe grew up in Richmond - and the Poe Museum has the world's finest collection of artifacts belonging to Poe. And while you're there meet two of the museum's famous feline residents - Edgar and Pluto!
VISIT: Science Museum of Virginia
The Science Museum of Virginia features four floors of interactive labs, awesome artifacts, hundreds of hands-on experiences and both permanent exhibitions and touring exhibitions from around the world to amaze and inspire you! It's great for all ages! Myke especially loves standing in the hurricane tunnel!
VISIT: Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
A fantastic art gallery with nearly 50,000 works of art spanning 6,000 years of history. Kristen especially loves the Fabrege egg exhibit.
