Gdansk is very walkable. If transportation is needed for longer distances, download and use Freenow. This is a rideshare app similar to Uber but cheaper and more common in Poland. Uber is also available in Poland.

It is not recommended to rent a car if planning on staying within the Tricity area - Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia. Freenow and Uber rides are inexpensive and readily available. If planning to traveling outside of the Tricity area, an international drivers permit is required. This can be obtained by visiting a AAA branch or by mail. Go to AAA.com for more information. WiFi is abundant in most bars, restaurants and hotels however the service may not be great once outdoors. It is recommended to get a SIM card from Airlo which is an app you can download on your phone. The card will get you unlimited data for about $20 which is good for about 1 week. Many businesses also use WhatsApp for communication as well.

Most places accept card. However, if you plan to go far out into the country side, you may need cash. The Polish currency is złote. The current exchange rate is approximately $1=4 zł. It is recommended to avoid exchanging money at the airport as you will find better exchange rates at a local bank or exchange station in the city.
