Flight
From PDX, the best way to get to Hood River is via rental car. Uber & Lyft are sparse in Hood River so this will be your best bet to explore the Gorge during the celebration weekend. Having a rental car will also allow you to take advantage of some of the amazing places the Columbia River Gorge has to offer. Mt Hood & Mt Adams are both under an hours drive in either direction and will offer amazing views of the Pacific Northwest.
House Or Rental
Airbnb and VRBO have great listings available in Hood River & White Salmon, WA (just across the river) and most have very flexible cancellation polices.
