Travel Note

Welcome to Kiawah Island!

A charming little island off the coast of the southern part of South Carolina, Kiawah Island is home to stunning marshes and beautiful sea-swept beaches! As a note, October is when South Carolina experiences some of its most gorgeous weather and it can be a popular travel period, so we recommend booking flights and hotels as soon as you can.

Getting In

The closest airport to Kiawah is Charleston International Airport, so we recommend flying into CHS and then traveling south from there.

Rental Car

Getting to and around Kiawah

While you can potentially take a Lyft or Uber down to the island, Lyft or Uber on the island itself is fairly limited to non-existent. We recommend renting a car in Charleston, either at the airport or in the city itself, as both provide several rental options, that way you have an easy way to get down to Kiawah, as well as get around the island (see linked below the webpage for the Charleston airport's car rental services). As is noted later on this page and on the "Schedule" page, on the day of the wedding we will have a shuttle which will transport people from the Charleston Kiawah Island Hotel/Andell Inn to the site of the ceremony and reception. This shuttle is open to anyone who wishes to use it, but will only be traveling to and from the Charleston Kiawah Island Hotel/Andell Inn and our venue. If you will be staying at a different hotel, or in a rental home, and do not wish to use the shuttle, due to the limited availability of Ubers and Lyfts on the island we recommend that you either rent a hired car to take you to the venue, or use the complimentary shuttle provided by the Kiawah Resort (as noted at the bottom of this page, the resort shuttle has limited availability). Also, some of the rental homes (for those of you who choose to rent) come with complimentary bikes - Matt says he will give a champagne toast to anyone who bikes to the wedding.

KIAWAH WILDLIFE

Note to those who rent a car and wish to drive around the island: Kiawah has a lot of wildlife - namely, deer. The deer, for the most part, do not seem to understand that standing in the middle of the road is asking for problems. While easily visible during the day, they can be hard to see at night, so please be careful and keep an eye out while driving around the island in the evenings. (Also, if you hear what sounds like someone screaming in the middle of the night, it's a bobcat, we promise - Kathryn learned that the hard way.)

We HIGHLY recommend booking a place to stay ASAP, as a number of other weddings are occurring our wedding weekend, and there is a limited number of accommodations available. Please see below the suggested accommodations, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions.

Charleston Kiawah Island/Andell Inn

We received a 5% discount with booking at the Andell Inn for all guests of the wedding. If you wish to book a room, please visit the booking link below (via the "View" button), before August 31, 2025. We highly recommend that all guests stay at the Andell, as this will likely be the easiest/most convenient place to stay for the duration of the wedding, due to its proximity to all events, and as it is the location where wedding shuttles will pick-up and drop-off wedding guests on the day of the ceremony.

Shuttle

Shuttle from the CHARLESTON KIAWAH ISLAND/ANDELL INN to the Ceremony

October 3, 2025 4:30 pm - 11:00 pm

As also noted on the "Schedule" page, we will have shuttles to bring guests over from the Charleston Kiawah Island/Andell Inn to the Ocean Course on the day of the wedding. The shuttles will be arriving at the Andell Inn at 4:30 PM and leaving the hotel at 4:50 PM sharp to ensure they arrive in time for the ceremony. The shuttles will then be departing from the Ocean Course back to the Inn starting from 9:30 until 11:00 PM, when festivities shut down for the night. You do not need to be a guest with at the Inn to use the shuttle, as they are open to anyone who wishes to use them, but you will need to meet the shuttles at the Inn entrance, and the shuttles will only be going to and from the hotel and the wedding venue.

House Or Rental

Renting a House on Kiawah

If you traveled with a group and would like to stay together you also have the option to rent a home on Kiawah. There are a number of rental companies who you can book a house through, including Kiawah Island Golf Resort. If you rent a home through the Resort, you can use our discount code to get 10% off - to use the code please call 1-866-763-5056 to make your booking, and provide them with the code when asked (or just let them know you are there for the Kellner-Lurie wedding).

Travel Note

KIAWAH ISLAND RESORT SHUTTLE

As a note, for those who reserve their rooms through Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the Resort provides a complimentary shuttle as part of the amenities of your stay, which will take you anywhere on the island at your request. However, the availability of the shuttle is limited on a first-come-first-serve basis, and the Resort advises that you may need to wait around 10-15 minutes before service.
