Our Story
How they Met
January 2021
Kate & Matt first matched on Hinge during the peak of the pandemic shutdown in New York City. When Matt discovered Kate's love of whiskey, he offered to make her an old fashioned, which incidentally is both of their favorite cocktail. They agreed to meet at a specialty food store in Manhattan named Kalustyan's to select from their wide range of bitters. Once Kate determined that Matt was likely not a serial killer, she agreed to go to his apartment for cocktails, dinner, and a movie. They ordered Indian food takeout and ended up watching 4 Star Wars films together.

2021 - 2022
Although restaurants were shut down, they made the best of dinners and movie nights. Following a grand display of affection on Valentine's Day where Matt showed up at Kate's job with flowers, balloons, and chocolates, they were finally able to go out to dinner. Kate selected one of her favorite Tex-Mex staples, and although they had to sit outside in the freezing cold, the two were grateful to finally be out in the world together. They quickly grew inseparable, with only one large obstacle between them. They lived 2 boroughs apart. Matt was in Brooklyn while Kate was up in the Bronx. For those unfamiliar with New York, this meant a one-way commute on 3 trains, which took 1.5 hours on a good day. Matt took the brunt of this on the chin and often made the trip up to Kate to continue to date for a few years.
Home Sweet Bushwick
2023-2024
As the two grew closer, they decided it was time to move in at the start of their 3rd year together. They found a cozy apartment in Bushwick and fell into their new normal. 2023 quickly became a year full of challenges, with Matt's mother Ginger falling ill and passing away midway through the year. Kate and Matt took bi-monthly visits to Ohio to spend as much time with her as possible. There are no words to describe the devastation of losing her, and they miss her every day. With this grief mixed with added health issues and job displacements, the couple clung to each other throughout the year. "I got you" became the new "I love you" in their household. 2024 began with a new resolve to press forward and start planning for the future. The couple decided to start saving to move across the country to Colorado, a state that neither had ever lived in but was closer to both their families. They worked hard to save over the year, eventually landing in Denver in November.
Move to Colorado & Engagement
2025
Kate and Matt landed in the Cap Hill neighborhood of Denver, deemed by them the best "baby step" from the buzz of New York City. They love their new home and are so grateful to the friends that have helped usher them into community in their short time here so far. In order to celebrate the success of the move, the two planned a long Europe trip at the end of the Summer. With Kate completely unaware, Matt carefully saved for an engagement ring and orchestrated a proposal in Florence, Italy. He got down on one knee outside of a photo booth, having revealed the ring during the photos with Kate blissfully unaware. It was the easiest yes of her life. Now Kate and Matt are thrilled to invite their closest friends and family to celebrate the next step of their journey in the new home they have found in Colorado.
