We were initially introduced by a mutual friend at a Michigan State University tailgate in September 2019, but we didn't truly connect for the first time until that same friend encouraged us to get coffee together. The aforementioned coffee plans became drinks at Crunchy's, one of our favorite MSU bars, where we hit it off and talked for much longer than initially planned. Despite some uncertainty about starting a relationship so close to the end of their time in East Lansing, we just couldn't stand the idea of not being around each other. After living in the Lansing area for a few years after graduation, we moved into our first home together in Grand Rapids, where we currently live as a family of four with Kara's dog, Arya, and Grace's cat, Sven. In February 2025, we went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Argentina, spending a few days in Buenos Aires and several more at Estancia Don Joaquin, a working ranch that Kara had dreamed of visiting for years. Grace collaborated closely with the staff at the estancia to plan a picture-perfect proposal—a private, golden hour picnic overlooking the property. Grace popped the question, and after some happy tears and laughter, Kara also reached into her bag and pulled out a ring, giving Grace the double proposal she'd always hoped for. We're so excited to celebrate with our loved ones, and we look forward to a lifetime of adventures together!
Kara made the first move while the two were walking home from their first date in East Lansing. Kara credits her boldness to the generous pours of the bartenders at the Tin Can, where they wandered to after Crunchy's and spent over an hour playing giant Connect Four.
Grace recently surprised Kara with a penguin meet-and-greet at the Potter Park Zoo for her birthday! We got to meet and feed the Magellanic penguins and learn more about them from one of the zookeepers.
When we're not travelling (or dreaming about travelling) and trying new restaurants, you can typically find us cuddled up on the couch with our pets. Kara will have a book and a mug of tea, and Grace will have her latest knitting project.
We are planning a trip to Greece! Itinerary TBD :)
We had an incredible dinner at El Fogon in Buenos Aires, which consisted of nine courses of Argentinian asado and wine pairings. We pretty much needed to be rolled out of there.
The Oxford comma, obviously!
