Though we both grew up in Southeast Michigan, we didn’t meet until the start of residency in Peoria, IL! One of the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics couples in our class hosted several gatherings in July and August. Jon finally dragged his butt out of the hospital to come to one and caught Adrienne’s eye. After several failed attempts at flirting by way of on-call coffee runs (and the fact that Jon doesn’t even like coffee), Adrienne found her way into Jon’s heart with cat pictures. Thanks, Torrigan!

2020 brought its share of surprises, to be sure. Adrienne’s favorite came in September during a hiking trip in Southern Utah. After a minor incident with a very leaky Camelbak, we hit the Rim Trail at Bryce Canyon. At a point with a spectacular view of the canyon, Jon stopped to “blow his nose” (aka retrieve the ring). Adrienne nearly ruined the surprise by borrowing a few sips of Jon’s water but was, thankfully, completely oblivious. Jon asked to get a picture with Adrienne facing the landscape; when she turned around, he was ready on one knee!
