We attended the same high school together with Jacob being in the grade above Hannah. We admired each other from afar for most of high school, but didn’t formally meet until a weekend church retreat Jacob’s senior year. After the retreat, we went on a few dates and eventually, on May 14, 2016, Jacob asked Hannah to be his girlfriend. They spent the rest of the summer growing closer and enjoying each other’s company before Jacob was off to college. During a tearful goodbye, we agreed that someday we would marry each other. The rest is history!
We were on a trip to Cape Cod for a long weekend. It was the perfect day and we decided to take a sunset drive up the coast to Provincetown. With the windows down, we cruised through picturesque beach towns and by harbors filled with sailboats. As the sun began to set, Jacob pulled off to a beach on the point of the cape. We walked along the shore, taking in the views of the rolling grass dunes meeting the ocean with seals occasionally poking their heads out of the water. Jacob said that we should take a picture together and set up a phone for a self-timer picture (or so I thought). He actually set it to video then knelt down and asked me to marry him. Between happy sobs I snuck out a "yes" and we spent the rest of the night reminiscing on our 7 years together. We can't wait to celebrate this next chapter of our lives with you. See you in Minneapolis in June!
