Like all great love stories, Katie & John first met in the desert on a slightly doomed independent film set. Amidst the chaos and cacti, they formed a strong admiration for one another that quickly transformed into an infatuation. Countless texts turned into overnight phone calls. A weekend in LA was followed by a weekend in Chicago. Several round-trips later, John made the audacious proposal that Katie move to Los Angeles and they start a life together. To his surprise, she agreed. They were both nuts.

After living together in LA for four years, John and Katie returned to the desert. This time it was a weekend in Joshua Tree with a proposal of marriage. No surprise this time—Katie emphatically said, "Yes". But the world was just days away from entering a pandemic and with it, a sea of uncertainty. John and Katie decided to postpone their wedding and make other moves. They relocated near the ocean and a few months later discovered the biggest surprise of their lives: Tessa. Looking back on it all now, it unfolded rather clumsily. But the joy and hope that has come from new life has been transformative. Even in times of immense uncertainty, life finds a way.
