The Wedding Website of Alicia Rice and John Stobbart
** We will not be doing hotel blocks, since as a destination wedding there will be no consistency on how long people will stay and who will want hotels vs Airbnbs ** You will need a passport valid for at least 90 days beyond your planned date of departure from Portugal, and we strongly recommend traveling with a passport valid no less than 6 months post your departure date from Portugal. You will need at least 2 blank passport pages for your entry stamp. Like most of the rest of Europe, Portugal’s currency is the Euro. ATMs are widely available, even in smaller towns. Major credit cards are also widely accepted. You will need to know your PIN code in order to authorize payments if using your credit card.

Train

Line 19001 train from Lisbon to Estoril

The train journey time between Lisbon and Estoril is around 33 min and covers a distance of around 15 miles. The fastest train normally takes 28 min. Typically 450 trains run weekly, although weekend and holiday schedules can vary so check in advance.

Train

Metro (Traveling within Lisbon)

The metro is the quickest and most practical way to travel around the city. The metro network has a total of 4 lines, each identified by a different colour: green (Telheiras – Cais do Sodré), blue (Reboleira – Santa Apolónia), yellow (Odivelas – Rato) and red (Aeroporto – São Sebastião).

Travel Note

Taxis

As elsewhere, taking a taxi in Lisbon is the most convenient way to travel around the city. Fares in Portugal are a little lower than in other European countries, so it can be a good value if you’re traveling in a group (splitting the cost often comes out cheaper than buying individual tickets to the bus or metro -- if you don’t acquire the Lisboa Card, that is).

Travel Note

Ubers

You can take an Uber in Lisbon. You need to download the smartphone app which allows you to book a car and pay for it without cash exchanged with the driver. In Lisbon, Uber cars are identified by a TVDE sticker placed on the front and rear windows of the driver’s side.
