The Lovers

Jet and Lennon met twice, and nearly half a dozen times before that. Between mutual friends and a string of mistimed handshakes, neither expected much when they finally met for coffee on Sunday, August 25th, 2019. Jet expected so little, in fact, that she showed up almost an hour late. Lennon, out of nerves, arrived over an hour early. You do the math. (She apologized profusely, of course.) Still, they sat together for four hours, each one subtly rescheduling—and eventually canceling—other plans to stay a little longer. They agreed to meet for a second date just two days later. But Lennon couldn’t wait that long. The very next morning, he was in the front row of Jet’s yoga class. As he tried not to fall out of tree pose, she tried hard not to fall for him. They promised themselves and their friends that it was just a casual thing. They were “just hanging out.” But we all watched as they broke that promise, day by day, for the next six years. Now, we invite you to bear witness as Jet and Lennon make a new promise to each other. The promise of forever.
