Things To Do

Salt Lake City is 4,265 feet above sea level. To contrast that, Indianapolis is 719 feet above sea level. This means there’s significantly less oxygen in the air in Salt Lake City. For visitors not used to high altitudes, you may experience altitude sickness. This can look like: Fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea/vomiting, rapid breathing or shortness of breath, and/or headaches, among other issues. When Maddie first moved to Salt Lake City, she experienced fatigue and had headaches. Excedrin and her water bottle were her only friends in town for a few weeks. If you’re coming from a low altitude and want to go hiking, choose a hike that is shorter and/or easier. Luckily, there are many ways to mediate altitude sickness. Make sure to drink lots of water, allow yourself rest, and limit your consumption of alcohol and caffeine. Pack: * Plenty of water * Sunscreen + hat for sun protection * Sturdy shoes * Snacks or a packed lunch * Layers

October is probably the best time to visit Antelope Island - this is great for an all-day trip!Hike, mountain bike or horseback ride the park’s backcountry trails for spectacular views of lake and island scenery; spend a star-filled night in one of several primitive campsites; stroll along sandy beaches and take a dip in the lake’s salty waters or step back in time with a visit to the historic Fielding Garr Ranch. Antelope Island is home to free-ranging bison, mule deer, bighorn sheep, pronghorn (antelope), and many other desert animals.
