It all began as most good stories begin... as I was scrolling through the Facebook dating app (yes that's a thing) swiping up and swiping down, I came across a tall burly lumberjack. He was barely smiling in any of his photos (as most males who post photos do on dating websites, I don't know why this is a thing, but it seems that men want us women to think they are always serious, which we know is not true) but something about him caught my attention. The funny and well known Alaskan dating phrase briefly passed through my mind - "The odds are good, but the goods are odd". I thought to myself, ah what the heck, why not try one more and see if we match? Sure enough, we matched. We started to chat and I was to the point in my dating (dare I say career?) that after a few sentences if we weren't planning a date already to meet in person, I was ready to move on. So, me being my very efficient self said, do you want to go on a date this weekend? He was so surprised, but immediately said yes, and said that I was the first woman to actually ask him out... and well, you know, the rest is history.
Maybe some of you don't know, but Bradley is definitely the romantic thoughtful type, and well, Jen is the practical frugal type... how the two ever got together we'll never know... actually you do know unless you skipped "How We Met". We both enjoy adventuring and Bradley had never been to Utah so Jen being from Utah decided to plan a trip. We had an incredible 10 day trip touring places like Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion National Parks. As we were nearing the end of our trip, we decided to do one last big hike - Angel's Landing in Zion NP. For those of you who haven't experienced this strenuous, steep hike with severe drop-offs and narrow sections (not too mention the 1,500 foot elevation change in 2.5 miles) you should do it, you won't regret it (unless you fall to your death... which 13 people have thus far) but that's beside the point. We began the hike and the uphill was strenuous, but we pushed on taking plenty of time to take in the incredible vistas. As we neared the last 1/2 mile, the wind began to howl - not a great thing when you are holding on to chains and pulling your body up a mountain, but we continued onward. As we neared the top, we came to a flat area. It would have been perfectly peaceful and ideal for a picnic, but we did have gale force winds trying to blow us off the mountain. We hugged each other so as to not fall off the cliff sides and then that's when Bradley took a step back, looked at me and said, " I really enjoy spending time with you" and then proceeded to kneel down and pull out a box. Then he stated, " Jennifer, will you marry me?" and I said............ wait for it..............YES! Then we turned around and headed quickly back down the mountain before the wind blew us off.
