Please read through this entire section EVEN IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED, as multiple layers of precaution will be most effective for keeping your fellow guests safe. SYMPTOMS Current variants of COVID may induce symptoms before they are detectable through tests. If you exhibit COVID symptoms (ex. cough, sore throat) EVEN IF YOU'RE VACCINATED, please stay home. If you are currently sick, you must test negative and be symptom-free before joining the festivities. The CDC also recommends rigorous mask wearing for 5 days after testing negative. TESTING We ask that all guests test for COVID, regardless of vaccination status. Please test yourself for COVID before gathering with others in Oberlin. Read through the following options carefully. PCR tests with a testing center or medical professional (nasal swab or saliva-based) can be done 1-2 days before a gathering. They will detect an omicron infection earlier than over-the-counter options due to their higher sensitivity. and/or Over-the-counter rapid antigen tests (nasal swab or saliva-based) should only be performed an hour or so before your first event. These tests are less sensitive and only turn positive further along in the infection, so they are best performed as close to a gathering as possible. If someone has an omicron infection, they may even experience symptoms prior to actually testing positive with a rapid antigen test. Anyone experiencing a mysterious new cough or sore throat who tests negative with a rapid antigen test isn't necessarily COVID-free. INDOOR MASK MANDATE AT THE CEREMONY Our ceremony will take place at Fairchild Chapel, the heart of Bosworth Hall on Oberlin College campus. Oberlin College is requiring that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear a mask indoors in public areas. Guests are required to keep their masks on at all times inside Bosworth Hall. NO MASK MANDATE AT OTHER EVENTS We are asking that everyone be careful and test so we can ease up on masks for the rest of the wedding. If you WANT to wear a mask, you are more than welcome to. There are many reasons to practice rigorous COVID precautions, and we respect your decision. If you are not comfortable attending our celebration because of COVID concerns, we completely understand. We appreciate your caution and would love to get together another time.
This day is not just a day to celebrate us. With everyone coming together, it's also a family reunion! We hope everyone embraces this opportunity to reunite with loved ones they may not have seen in a long time. We encourage you to make plans before Saturday. Walk through the Saturday morning farmers market or grab a cup of coffee at one of the local cafes before the ceremony! After the reception, change into shorts and relax. Check out the "Guide to the Area" for ideas.
Once all of the RSVPs are in, we will assign everyone a "Team Captain". Team Captains will be fellow family and friends who have agreed to helps us on the day-of. Team Captains will shepherd folks for group photos and serve as point people for basic questions.
Jane and Ian had known each other for many years, but never well, until one day Jane's friend Andrew challenged her to a game of online chess. Jane was fiercely competitive but knew nothing about chess. She knew Ian had studied the game for a college project, and enlisted him to help her crush Andrew. Jane wanted to improve and learn more. Ian helped her learn chess strategy and tactics. In the process, Jane and Ian started to learn more about each other.
Since then we have continued to share a love for games, among other things. We have studied, worked, played, and achieved major life milestones together. It was obvious early on that this was "it" for both of us. Now we're just ready to celebrate with our family and friends. (Frankly, we've been ready for several years now. So let's get on with it!)
As we went back and forth with planning the ceremony, (slowly driving Ian's mother insane), we realized that it could only be in Oberlin. We wanted it to be somewhere that made us feel grounded and at home. We wanted to be surrounded by our loved ones and share great food with them. And we really, really wanted our dog to be our ring bearer. The ceremony will be just off of Tappan Square, in Oberlin College's Fairchild Chapel. From there, it will be a short walk to our favorite burger joint and bar: the Feve, home of the best rotating brunch menu on the planet.
