How We Met

February 2009

Jackie and Eli first met at Jackie's 21st Golden Birthday Party. Jackie was hosting a house party on South Willard St. in Burlington VT to celebrate and Eli, pining for his youth, decided to join his friend (and Jackie's Skinny Pancake co-worker) Michael Wooten at a college party on a cold and dark night in the middle of the winter. Jackie doesn't remember the details of this night...but the next morning she was told (by her intelligent friend Katie) that she hit it off with this great guy named Eli. A few weeks later, Eli was looking for extra work and as luck would have it, their mutual friend Michael suggested picking up shifts at Skinny Pancake as a Crêpe Artist (yes, that's what it's called). By April - Jackie and Eli were quite smitten with each other. They quickly discovered their mutual love for dancing, sing-alongs, and ice cream. The rest is history!

The Engagement

May 27th, 2017

Over the many years that Jackie and Eli have been together - Cape Cod has become an extremely special place for them. They had been talking about this trip to The Cape on Memorial Day weekend for many weeks in advance. What are we going to do while we're there? Are we going to go to our favorite coffee shop? How many times are we going to visit Sundae School? Can we go to Chapin Beach? The weekend was all planned out- it would be the perfect way to kick off the summer 2017 - little did Jackie know that Eli had more in store than ice cream and lobster rolls. On Saturday morning, they woke up early to go for a run along West Dennis Beach. It was a perfect late spring day and they were both so excited to run in the sun by the ocean. After the jog - they headed to their favorite coffee shop, The Snowy Owl in Brewster, and grabbed lunch at a new spot nearby - it was quickly becoming the perfect day! In hindsight, Jackie should have known something was up since Eli could barely finish his lunch and he didn't even try to eat any of hers. They made their way to Chapin Beach, on the bay side of Cape Cod. The tide was high - but they managed to find a private spot on the sand for their blankets and beers. Eli began setting up his GoPro camera (Jackie's least favorite activity) and suggested they take some pictures together. Jackie begrudgingly agreed (after some light coercion) and they began what Jackie thought was a funny beach photo shoot. Little did she know - Eli was taping them. A few moments later - Eli dropped down on one knee! After Jackie asked 1,000 clarifying questions about where the ring had come from, where it was being kept, how Eli got it, and who else knew about this!? she agreed to make Eli the happiest man in the world and marry him. <3
