From Newport to Astoria, the northern Oregon coast is filled with hiking trails, adorable seaside towns (including a town called Seaside), shipwrecks, panoramic views, tidepools, surfing (bring a wetsuit!), small family farms and some famous movie locations from the 80's (Goonies, anyone?)
The wilderness surrounding our iconic Cascade Peak (the tallest mountain in Oregon) is filled with wildflowers, pristine alpine lakes, old growth forest, scenic rivers and home to the historic Timberline Lodge, the exterior setting for the movie "The Shining" and boasting the longest ski season in the country (open 10 months out of the year).
The fertile valley that Portland sits in, as well as a mild climate year round, allows the area to be a vintner's paradise. The small towns of Dundee, Dayton, Canby, Yamhill (among many others) allow for a lovely sunny day of tasting rich Pinot Noirs in the gorgeous vineyards and enjoying world-class cuisine.
The Garden sits nestled in the hills of Portland iconic Washington Park, overlooking the city and providing a tranquil, urban oasis. It encompasses 12 acres with eight separate garden styles, and includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and a spectacular view of Mt. Hood.
A wonderful park - an extinct volcano -that sits above the city on the east side of the Willamette River, providing exercise opportunities (it's a favorite for trail runners and cyclists) and a lovely place to sit and watch the sunset while enjoying a picnic from the top of the peak.
Once a bustling highway, this riverside gem offers more than 36 acres of strollable, bikeable and dog-walkable public park with historical and cultural monuments aplenty. Every July 4th, it is the premier spot to watch the city's spectacular fireworks show.
