Things To Do

We're so excited to share the city with you for the weekend! D.C. has a great food and bar scene, funky local shopping, and of course, world-class museums and landmarks. Below are a few of our favorites! The Fairmont D.C. concierge is always available for assistance, but don't hesitate to reach out if we can help or give any additional recommendations!
Dupont Farmer's Market

Dupont Farmer's Market

1500 20th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20036

The Sunday Morning Dupont Farmer's market is a weekend mainstay. Fresh produce, free samples, baked goods and much more.

Kramers

Kramers

1517 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20036
, (202) 387-1400

Kramers singlehandedly got Scott through college. It's a combination bookstore, bar, and restaurant with excellent pastries and desserts.

Baked & Wired

Baked & Wired

1052 Thomas Jefferson Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20007
, (703) 663-8727

If you want a cupcake in Georgetown, there's one spot better than Georgetown Cupcake. It's called Baked & Wired. The cupcakes are bigger, better, they also brew excellent coffee. It's worth the long line.

Call Your Mother Deli

Call Your Mother Deli

1143 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20037

It's not your traditional New York bagel, but it's a really good bagel. Bacon, egg, and cheese is always the move... or anything with the hot honey on it. There's a few CYM locations, but this one is right near the venue!

Ted's Bulletin

Ted's Bulletin

1818 14th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 265-8337

Scott and Rebecca spent a few years on 14th St., one of the central hubs of D.C. It's home to their favorite all-day breakfast spot, Ted's Bulletin. Famous for their home-made pop tarts, milkshakes, and the "cinnamon roll as big as ya head," Ted's never disappoints. (There's another location in Eastern Market.)

Falafel Inc

Falafel Inc

1210 Potomac Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20007
, (202) 338-2969

Just an excellent—and cheap—hole-in-the-wall falafel spot deep in Georgetown. A great lunch if you've been out shopping on M Street all morning. (There's another location by the Wharf.)

Compass Coffee

Compass Coffee

1351 Wisconsin Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20007
, (202) 746-5510

If you're anywhere in D.C. and see Compass Coffee, just go. The cold brew they serve on-tap is out of this world.

Le Diplomate

Le Diplomate

1601 14th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 332-3333

Le Diplomate is an excellent French-style restaurant on 14th St. by Logan Circle. The steak frites and the burger are always great, and Rebecca loves the warm shrimp salad. The bread basket alone is awesome. They also have a wonderful brunch.

Etto

Etto

1541 14th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20005
, (202) 232-0920

Perhaps Scott and Rebecca's favorite restaurant in D.C. It's a one-room, one-oven spot with Neapolitan pizzas on 14th Street by Logan Circle. Everything on the menu is good. They don't take reservations but it's worth a short wait.

Chaplin's Restaurant

Chaplin's Restaurant

1501 9th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 644-8806

Maybe the best ramen joint in the city. The Spicy ASS ramen is Scott's favorite—and the cocktails are excellent.

Duke's Grocery

Duke's Grocery

2000 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20006
, (202) 733-3967

The Proper Burger is the best burger in the city. (Another location near Dupont Circle.)

Tryst

Tryst

2459 18th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 232-5500

Half-coffee shop, half-bar, always great brunch and dinner. If you're in Adams Morgan, it's the place to eat.

Casta's Rum Bar

Casta's Rum Bar

1121 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 660-1440

A Cuban rum bar near the venue? Shall we say more?

Board Room

Board Room

1737 Connecticut Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 518-7666

A board game bar just north of Dupont Circle. Always a fun time.

Tatte Bakery & Cafe

Tatte Bakery & Cafe

1200 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20036
, (202) 919-8300

Tatte is just around the corner from the venue. Good pastries and excellent atmosphere.

sweetgreen

sweetgreen

2238 M Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 629-2100

The best salad chain in the world? Of course. You can find Sweetgreens all over the city and they're great. Rebecca is thrilled that one is finally coming to Ann Arbor.

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

10th St. & Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20560
, (202) 633-1000

The Smithsonian museums are completely free and this one might be Scott's favorite.

Zaytinya by José Andrés

Zaytinya by José Andrés

701 9th Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 638-0800

An upscale Mediterranean restaurant with excellent tapas-style food. Located right in Chinatown by the Portrait Gallery.

Union Market

Union Market

1309 5th Street Northeast, Washington, DC 20002
, (301) 347-3998

Union Market is a nice food hall in DC's NoMa neighborhood with a bit of shopping too.

Rasika West End

Rasika West End

1190 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 466-2500

Upscale Indian restaurant on New Hampshire Avenue, right by the venue.

Iron Gate Restaurant

Iron Gate Restaurant

1734 N Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20036
, (202) 524-5202

Excellent Mediterranean restaurant not too far from the hotel. Reservations are wise and, if it's not too cold, they have a lovely outdoor patio (with heaters).

Mercy Me

Mercy Me

Washington, DC 20037
, (202) 828-7762

Highly-rated southern fare just blocks from the venue. The same owners as Timber Pizza and Call Your Mother bagels, so you know it's good.

National Portrait Gallery

National Portrait Gallery

Washington, DC 20001
, (202) 633-8300

The National Portrait Gallery is our favorite art museum. It's built in a rectangle with a very serene open-air space in the middle. See the Obama portraits upstairs and grab a coffee afterward.

The White House

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20500
, (202) 456-1111

If it's nice outside, stroll on by The White House! You can walk up to the front gate and take some pictures. Don't be afraid to be a tourist.

Lincoln Memorial

Lincoln Memorial

Lincoln Memorial Circle, Washington, DC

If you want to visit one monument, visit the Lincoln. It's incredible. And the view over the National Mall toward the Capitol is the best.

Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum

Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian American Art Museum

1661 Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20006
, (202) 633-7970

Funky modern and contemporary art right by the White House—also free, also Smithsonian.

Library of Congress

Library of Congress

101 Independence Avenue Southeast, Washington, DC 20540
, (202) 707-5000

The Jefferson Building of the Library of Congress is gorgeous—especially the reading room. You might need to book a tour in advance, but there should be a self-guided option.

The Phillips Collection

The Phillips Collection

1600 21st Street Northwest, Washington, DC 20009
, (202) 387-2151

A renowned art museum in the heart of Dupont. Not free but worth it!
