Want to visit downtown Champaign but don't want to deal with the University of Illinois end of the semester crowds? We HIGHLY recommend transport via the Illini Pub Cycle. You peddle your way through Champaign while a bartender serves you food and drinks for the entire duration of the ride. It's a fun way to see what there is to see while having a laid back tour fill with fun and exciting people and places!
If you know Zach and I even a tad bit, you know that we are huge Chicago Cubs Baseball fans! As much as we recommend going to Wrigley Field to see a game, we are very much so against driving in that crazy town with those crazy people during the crazy game day! Anytime we go to Chicago, we take the Metra. Directions to Wrigley via the train is as follows: We drive north on I57 and get off at University Park (plug the metra into your phone maps and it will take you right to the station. Make sure you have $1.25 for parking for the day.). Take the Metra Train to Millennium Station and get off and walk up to the Red Line. The Red Line will drop you off right there by Wrigley Field. You can check the Metra schedule online by going to https://metrarail.com/maps-schedules.
Navy Pier is one of my most favorite Chicago Landmarks. This Chicago Shoreline on Lake Michigan is absolutely beautiful any time of the day. There's always so much to do and so much going on down there but it is also fun to walk around and relax at.
One of the most popular attractions to visit in St Louis is the Gateway Arch. They offer tours and you can walk (may have an elevator, I am not sure on that one) to the tip top of the arch and look out. Fun picture opportunity if you love capturing photo's of your families, just as much as the bride does with hers!
VOTED THE #1 ATTRACTION IN THE STATE OF ILLINOIS Starved Rock Park is a world apart from anything else in Illinois! You will know it the minute you enter the park, as you wind your car through the towering trees. There's amazing waterfalls that are active in the spring and after heavy rains. There's 13 miles of trails to explore and the Illinois River offers fishing, boating, extraordinary views and great places to relax. Starved Rock State Park is a free state park with no entrance fee. Such fun for a quick day trip and there's a lot to see.
The Normal CornBelters are a professional baseball team based in Normal, Illinois, and are a member of the Frontier League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. Although, its not the same as attending an actual Major League Baseball game, this is just a great and such a fun experience for little kids and families. Much cheaper too. You do have to purchase tickets. You can buy them in advanced or at the door. It could be hit or miss on if there is even a home game during wedding weekend but definitely something to look into!
Clinton Lake is a fun/cheap option for a spontaneous day trip filled with fishing, hiking, boating or just a day at the beach. We highly recommend visiting here while your in town!
Tired of sitting around waiting for the wedding to begin? Go out and enjoy a quick 9 holes on the course!
