Our story began in a "hopeless place" – on spring break with a group of swimmers, surfers, and wannabe beach bums at the end of their college years. In the face of improbable odds, our meet-cute is about as PG as it gets... basically Haley paid such little attention to me all trip, that I knew I needed to get to know her better. My first order of business after returning to campus was to ask her on a beach picnic at sunset to reverse this apathy. We were fortunate to have a few months of time together on campus to get to know each other at a very special time in our lives. One thing truly led to another as we built a relationship and wove our lives together atop an organic friendship.
Way back in 2018, Miller and I were hoping to slow down a bit and spend time with both our families over the Christmas holiday. 3 days before we left, Miller and I drove south of the city to run some errands and soak up some sun. On our way back to SF, Miller suggested we take a scenic detour to Half Moon Bay - the spot where we had our first date. Thinking he was being the normal kind of romantic and spontaneous, I happily agreed. After watching the waves for awhile, Miller handed me a letter. Still unsuspecting, I opened the letter and started reading what was clear to be a proposal. When I looked back up, he was holding a ring and smiling. Thrilled by the very apparently abnormal kind of romanticism and spontaneity, I laughed, started crying, said yes, and cried some more.
