Things To Do

We chose this destination for the endless activities and adventures it offers. Playa Potrero will be our home base, but we encourage you to explore the surrounding areas. Whether it's ziplining through the rainforest, checking out a nearby surf break, or lounging by the pool with a mojito, this is your vacation, so make it what you want! If you're looking for inspiration or have an excursion idea, feel free to reach out to www.linkexpeditions.com (recommended tour operator). We have also traveled to a few different destinations within Costa Rica. If you're hoping to extend your trip, we've shared recommendations below.

Food & Drinks

We'll have a more complete guide of local recommendations at the hotel, but here's the short list: Hemingway's: Chill beach bar near the hotel for good food and drinks. Nita Coffee: Cute coffee shop with delicious breakfast, juices, smoothies, and more. Potrero Brewing Co: Awesome local brewery with a taco shop next door. Las Catalinas: A nearby town known for it’s colorful architecture and great dining spots. Make a reservation for a sunset dinner at Casa Chameleon if you’re looking for a special treat!

The first place we visited in Costa Rica and another great option! It's a lively and energetic beach town known for it’s surf, beautiful beaches, and vibrant nightlife. Nestled between mountains and the Pacific Ocean, it blends rugged natural beauty with a boho personality. Favorite Restaurants: Atardecer Dorado, Ani's Bowls and Salads, Butterfly Brewing Company, Nami Places to Stay: Funky Monkey Surf & Yoga Lodge, Buena Onda Bungalows, Hotel Vista Las Olas Things to Do: Montezuma Waterfall Hike, Tortuga Island Tour, Surf

Liberia

La Leona Waterfall Adventure: A guided river and canyon walk with short swims, leading to La Leona Waterfall. We've previously booked with Don Rafa Adventure Tours. Rio Celeste Waterfall Hike: A rainforest hike to the iconic turquoise Río Celeste Waterfall in Tenorio Volcano National Park. One of the coolest places we've visited. Rincon De La Vieja National Park: A scenic hike through volcanic landscapes, featuring bubbling mud pots, waterfalls, and lush tropical forest.

Monteverde

Monteverde is a mountain town famous for it’s misty cloud forests, rich biodiversity, and natural beauty. Known as a sanctuary for wildlife, it offers a serene escape with stunning views, hiking trails, and lush greenery. We loved it for the nature, tranquility, and local flavor!

La Fortuna

La Fortuna is a town set in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano, surrounded by rainforests and natural hot springs. It offers everything from waterfalls and zip-lining to relaxing thermal baths.
