Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead is a vibrant and colorful multi-day celebration that takes place all over Mexico and it is particularly fun and festive at SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE. This holiday is a time to pause and remember those who have passed on, while celebrating their lives. A mix of Pre-Hispanic and Catholic beliefs, DIA DE MUERTOS is full of colors, smells, family, prayer and remembrance.
One of the most important traditions of this day is the creation of altars to welcome the spirits of the departed back to the world of the living. The ALTARES are decorated with bright marigold flowers, candles, PAN DE MUERTO (sweet bread), SUGAR SKULLS, salt, photographs, and papel picado,
as these items are believed to help guide the spirits back to the altar and
provide them with light and nourishment on their journey.
As part of our welcome party, we will create an ALTAR at Hotel Tres Fuentes.
You are welcome to bring a photograph of your loved ones
who has passed to place at the altar.
