5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Join us for this quintessential Mexican tradition. La CALLEJONEADA is a street party held at the park to celebrate the couple and wish them AMOR ETERNO (endless love) and good fortune while dancing to the tune of MARIACHIS. Please dress in WHITE or BEIGE! Dress code: Dressy casual Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes!
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Right after LA CALLEJONEADA we will gather for cocktails and Mexican ANTOJITOS at the interior garden of Tres Fuentes Hotel. There will be a shrine or ALTAR DE MUERTOS with OFRENDAS to honor our loved ones who have passed. If you wish, you can bring a small photo of your departed to place at the ALTAR. To enjoy the rest of the evening, we recommend you make reservations at a rooftop restaurant near LA PARROQUIA. Please refer to the FAQs tab for our suggestions.
4:30 pm
FORMAL ATTIRE: Black tie - black tuxedo with black bow tie or black suit for the CATRINES (black-tuxedo is preferred!) and long, dressy, colorful gowns for the CATRINAS. A shawl is recommended as temperatures tend to drop into the NIGHT.
The ceremony and reception will both take place at Hacienda Herencia de Allende. PLEASE BE ON TIME! Hacienda Herencia de Allende is located approximately 15 minutes outside ZONA CENTRO. Due to the festivities of EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS and municipal ordinances enacted for the festivities, traffic will be difficult in town, particularly to move busses around. Therefore, transportation to the venue will NOT be provided. We recommend using the service of a taxi or UBER. If you are staying close to the PARROQUIA, we suggest walking towards el Parque Benito Juarez for a speedier pick-up since traffic is lighter in that area of town. For your convenience, we have included the contact information of the transportation company that we use in SAN MIGUEL if you want to book a private chauffeur service ahead of time: BESTUR - email: otbestur@gmail.com - WHATSAPP: +524151035353 - website: https://bestur.com.mx/
6:00 pm
The ZONA CENTRO fills with color, festivities, and music, on the solemn occasion of the DAY OF THE DEAD. We will participate in the city's fun and unique Catrinas Parade. The parade begins on El Cardo Street, followed by Calle Ancha de San Antonio, then Zacateros Street, passing through Umarán, and ending at EL JARDIN with LA PARROQUIA of San Miguel as the backdrop.
CATRINAS and CATRINES, don't forget your costume. Be creative! The typical Catrina dress is of French inspiration making reference to the Mexican society obsession with European customs in the early 1900s. A little history: This character was first created as a satirical caricature by illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada, using as inspiration the queen of the Aztec underworld wearing a fancy hat of European style. Although originally referred to as "La Calabera Garbancera", with time and with Diego Rivera's rendering of the calabera in his famous mural: "SUEñO DE UNA TARDE DOMINICAL EN LA ALAMEDA CENTRAL" , it became popularly known as LA CATRINA. Her name ‘Catrina’ comes from the slang ‘catrin’ which referred to a well-dressed man or woman. Costumes can be simple. Most participant dress in black! But you must paint your face into a beautiful festive skull. Crowns and hats are sold all over town and makeup stations can be found on pop-up spaces on the streets around LA PARROQUIA.
9:00 pm
As the parade winds down and after the blessing from EL PADRECITO that happens on a stage right in front of the PARROQUIA, we will walk down the street to this near-by cute bistro to sing and dance the night away. Refreshments and Italian appetizers await!
