Question

WHAT TO DO IN SAN MIGUEL ALLENDE?

Answer

PARROQUIA DE SAN MIGUEL DE ARCANGEL & JARDIN ALLENDE Located in the main plaza, the dusty pink parish church, LA PARROQUIA is San Miguel's MOST famous landmark. The main plaza is officially called JARDIN ALLENDE or "El Jardin" like locals refer to it. We enjoy strolling the plaza and sitting down with a Mexican street dessert to listen to the MARIACHIS. CENTRO CULTURAL IGNACIO RAMÍREZ EL NIGROMANTE Originally a convent, this 18th-century building is the Escuela de BELLAS ARTES. You’ll find beautiful murals and galleries. It has a mural known as “The Unfinished Mural of Siqueiros” painted on the walls of the vault of the building in the 1940s by David A Siqueiros along with GI art students. MUSEO CASA DE ALLENDE San Miguel bears the name of IGNACIO JOSE DE ALLENDE, who was a key figure in Mexico’s independence from Spain and is considered a national HERO. His home, built in 1760, sits next to El Jardin and has been turned into a museum where you can take tours. MERCADO DE ARTESANIAS Find local handmade wares, as well as food vendors all through the winding, long alley that houses EL MERCADO (Crafts Market). EL CHARCO DEL INGENIO For those looking for a more active hike OUTSIDE of the city, you can visit San Miguel's Botanical Gardens and Natural Reserve. Consecrated as a PEACE ZONE by the Dalai Lama, El Charco features a Conservatory of Mexican plants, viewpoints, and trails. FABRICA LA AURORA Once a textile factory, today LA AURORA is a large Cultural Arts and Design Center. It is home to canvases, sculptures and artisanal craftwork made by the great artists who live in SAN MIGUEL. Do not miss it! There is something for every art collector! HOT AIR BALLOON See San Miguel from a different vantage point- the AIR! Rides are offered daily by Globo San Miguel. LA CASA DRAGONES Experience a private tour of Casa Dragones for a tasting of this home TEQUILA. The house is also an architectural gem! Make reservations at their 6-seat tasting room or the rooftop bar.
