Colin and Kimberly met in the most millennial way possible... through an app. Thanks to Bumble, these two bees arranged their first date at Stoic & Genuine at Union Station. Colin made the reservations about two weeks in advance. Kimberly was not feeling well the morning of the date since she was on and off painkillers, but she felt bad cancelling last minute because the plans were made so far in advance. So, she decided to suck up her pain and get herself ready for her date with "the guy with the adorable dog in his photos." Kimberly was just about one month out of knee surgery and still on crutches. Colin met her at the front door of her apartment which was across the street from Union Station. It was a drizzly day, so Colin held an umbrella over her as she crutched her way across the street to the restaurant. They sat down at their table, and had their awkward "first date" conversations. They ordered crawfish, king crab legs, and cornbread. Kimberly was shocked to have such good seafood in a landlocked state, since she grew up on the coast. The evening continued with laughs and good conversation until the check came. The gentleman that Colin is, walked her back to her apartment lobby and said his goodbyes with a kiss on the cheek. It was the start of a beautiful relationship.
In August of 2016, Kimberly was in the drive-thru of the Walgreens pharmacy on Colfax & Sheridan. It's not a great area, but it was the nearest pharmacy to Colin's house. As she pulled into the parking lot, she noticed a puppy in the alley. She coaxed the puppy over & scooped this little furball into her arms. She called Colin for advice & he said to bring the puppy to a vet to see if he is chipped. At the vet, There was no luck for a microchip, & Kimberly was informed that the puppy was severely abused. She was on a mission to find a new home for the puppy, but needed to bring him somewhere until then. Colin's dog, Corona, is very territorial & aggressive toward other dogs, so Colin laughed when Kimberly suggested bringing the puppy to his house. His response was, "sure, just clean up the blood when Corona eats him." Kimberly was cautious with their introduction, & Corona was not happy at first. Eventually, Corona sniffed his wounds & she let her guard down. Within 30 minutes, Corona & this new puppy were holding paws & basking in the sun in Colin's yard. Kimberly was sending Colin pictures & videos, but he couldn't believe his eyes. Kimberly had fallen in love with this puppy & wanted to keep him. She didn't know how she would manage with her shared apartment & job as a flight attendant. Since Kimberly & Colin discussed moving in together when her lease was up in the spring, Colin agreed to let the puppy stay with him while Kimberly was working, so she could manage having a puppy with her job. Kimberly decided to name the puppy Wall-E as a play off of Walgreens, where she found him. Wall-E & Corona became the best of friends. After a few months of Wall-E & Kimberly being back & forth between Colin's home & Kimberly's apartment, Colin told Kimberly that she should try to sublease her apartment so she could finally move in with him. Just two weeks later, Kimberly was moving in with Colin & the two started their own journey as a little family with fur babies.
Colin had planned on Saturday night (the 21st) they would go out to dinner. Kimberly was sure he would propose that day. Then she suggested they go roller skating a few days prior when she gets home from her trip. So they planned to meet at Skate City, Arvada, on Thursday, October 19th, after Kimberly's flight landed at 7pm. They got on the rink & skated around a few laps before Colin said he had to go to the bathroom. Kimberly skated on her own while snapchatting her "Thursdate Night" to her friends. Colin came back & they skated a few more wobbly laps before Colin wiped out bad. Kimberly immediately came over & thought he was truly hurt when he didn't pop right back to his feet. When he looked up at her, she knew something was off. He said "I think I fell on something, what is that in my pocket" & he pulled out a beautiful mahogany ring box as he lifted himself onto one knee. She almost knocked the ring box out of his hand because she was in shock trying to help him up. He said to her, "Kim, you're one of the most challenging people to surprise, and I hope I actually surprised you. I love you so much, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" She couldn't help but cry because it was the most beautiful & unexpected moment of her life. She couldn't even speak & Colin asked, "so is that a yes?" And she shook her head yes through smiles & joyful tears. He put the ring on her finger & kissed her. He even had good friends, Victoria & Eric, there to catch it all on camera! Colin & Kimberly decided to do one more lap before heading out to grab drinks & celebrate. They got to Sloans Tap & Burger to celebrate with drinks & shots of tequila. They couldn't stop smiling/laughing/crying all night & had to leave Kimberly's car overnight in the parking garage. The next day they went to pick up Kimberly's car from the lot they left it in & it was towed. So hip hip hooray for their first adventure as an engaged couple to the impound lot!
