Question

How do you pronounce Orcas Island? Is it pronounced like the killer whale?

Answer

Despite the spelling, it is not pronounced like the killer whale! It is actually pronounced OR-kiss. The island actually isn't even named after the animal either. If you're lucky, you may be able to see some of the Southern Resident Killer Whales during your visit.

Question

When should I make lodging accomodations?

Answer

ASAP! Orcas Island is a popular vacation destination. The sooner you make plans, the more options you have. Lodging also tends to be less expensive the further out you book it. Even if you are planning on more rustic accommodations, the campgrounds at Moran State Park book up FAST.

Question

How do I navigate the ferry system?

Answer

The ferry route from Anacortes to Orcas Island can be confusing, even if you've taken other Seattle area ferries. That being said, the ferry ride is one of the best parts of traveling to the San Juan Islands. Because Orcas Island is a popular place to visit in the summer, it is best to plan early. However, given the shifting landscape of the ferry system due to covid, we will update this section when we are a few months out from the wedding. Please see the travel page for details for reservations, tickets, and other ferry info.

Question

Are there any other events that I should know about around the wedding?

Answer

Yes! Because everyone is coming from so far away, please drop in at the venue the night before. We aren't having a proper dinner, but we will have snacks and drinks available. Come say hi on Friday night to other guests (and us of course!) Similarly, we will be hosting a casual brunch Sunday morning at the same venue. If youre leaving the island Sunday, come grab coffee and a bite to eat to say goodbye!

Question

What covid precautions are you taking?

Answer

Great question! Please take appropriate precautions to keep yourself and the rest of our guests safe. We have asked all guests to be vaccinated and boosted at the time of our wedding. We will have older loved ones in attendance as well as those with health concerns and it is important that our guests feel safe. Wash your hands and allow space when talking to others. With a guest count of 74, we want you do what you need to feel safe. Testing is encouraged, especially if you have any symptoms. You are welcome to mask for any and all events. The ceremony is outdoors and we will do as much as we can to have ventilation within the hall during the reception. Tables will be spaced out as much as possible and you are welcome to socialize outside on the deck/patio area.

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

There is some parking at the venue, but if you are staying in East Sound, the venue is only a couple blocks from downtown.
