How We Met

First comes an ordinary job, then comes love and marriage

We met in the office! Just like Jim and Pam from "The Office", only that Fan wasn't a receptionist. Rumor has it that it was a story of love at first sight. Thanks to the millions of happy hours had among coworkers at our office, we quickly became good friends and shared countless moments of laughter and joy throughout the years. Working on the same account brought us even closer and made us realize that we were a good team together, we even won fantasy football as co-champions that year! Then one day Doug had a lame excuse to ask Fan out: "I have an extra ticket to a dad rock concert, a.k.a. Tower of Power...", the rest is history!

The Proposal

"YES" on the beach then, "I DO" on the beach later

I knew Fan was the one for me after a year of living together in Los Angeles. It is a dramatic shift to go from a long-distance relationship for 1+ years to then moving in together. After moving into our LA apartment for a full year with her, I realized that my life was not only great, it was better than ever before. Travel has been a big cornerstone of our relationship, as Fan opened my eyes for traveling and my love of experiencing new environments and cultures. I knew that proposing in Los Angeles or Connecticut was not an option, I had to fit a major theme of our relationship. A long-anticipated trip to Hawaii planned out over nearly eight months was going down in October of 2019. I felt this was the perfect setting for me to ask for her hand in marriage. Fan thought it would be cute to hire someone to take professional pictures of us on the beach and this was my moment...to hijack her plans and make them my own! I coordinated with our photographer on the side to let him know my intentions, and he helped give pointers and we picked out a spot in advance to pop the question. She never saw it coming, and everything went so smoothly! ...up until I had to pop the question. Even though I knew I wasn't going to get rejected, it was truthfully the most nerve-wracking moment in my life. I had a speech planned out, and completely choked! Thankfully I am quick on my feet and was able to ad-lib my way into it. At a point where Fan was suggesting a few poses for pictures, while I stood there in awkward silence I suggested "what about this?" and got to one knee. After what felt like an hour of tear-filled admissions of love to her, I got my yes. Along with all of our great pictures, of course.

The Destination Wedding

Mexico holds a special place in our hearts

We know we are being extra AF to drag you all across the ocean to celebrate our special day. You might ask: Why Mexico? Why Isla Mujeres? Well, the answer is three fold: 1). Our first trip together as couple was to Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. People say that traveling together is the best test for your relationship. Our test result was: we are SO meant to be with each other! 2). It was in Tulum that Doug said those three words to Fan for the first time! 3). Our Proposal was on the beach, and we thought it would be perfect to tie the knot on the beach! Isla Mujeres is a charming little island right off of Cancun. We both fell in love with the energy and scenery this island has to offer and cannot wait to show you the magic of this paradise. We thought to bring you all down to celebrate our special day and hope you can enjoy a little get-away for yourself as well!

Special notes on COVID-19

The world is in a pandemic, now what?

We cannot wait to celebrate our happiest day with you all in paradise!! However, the global pandemic is rapidly impacting our lives in major ways. In addition to travel concerns, it also impacts many people financially and physically. We have officially postponed our wedding by one year to December 13, 2021. We picked one year out optimistically thinking that the COVID pandemic will be over and people can safely travel and enjoy our wedding weekend. If there are any other changes to our wedding we will let you all know, but for now we have our sights on 2021 and look forward to celebrating our marriage with you all! Meanwhile...stay healthy, stay safe and do not hesitate to reach out to us directly if you have any questions or concerns. Love, Fan & Doug
