We will be flying to San Francisco on Monday, 9/16 on United flight 1182 departing at 9:15 AM from MSP. We will be staying 3 nights in the Bay Area, and you are welcome to join in at any time! RSVP to the Pre-Wedding Excursion and we will coordinate lodging and group activities. Details are TBD, but Tuesday night tour of Alcatraz, happy hour at the Tonga Room, a day trip to Napa Valley for wine tastings, and a picnic in front of the Pink Ladies (as seen on Full House) are some ideas being thrown around. On Thursday morning 9/19 we plan to make our way down the coast to Big Sur, with some stops in Santa Cruz and Monterey during the 3 hour drive. We'll be staying at Big Sur Lodge Thursday night to Sunday night 9/22, and on Monday we will part ways for a mini honeymoon in Carmel Valley, returning to San Francisco for our flight home on Thursday 9/26, Sun Country flight at 6:05 PM. Let us know if you need any help with your trip!
We recommend finding a cabin in Big Sur from Thursday-Sunday/Monday, since sharing a two-bedroom cabin is most economical and simple when staying in Big Sur. We suggest checking these places first: Big Sur Lodge (we have a room block here!), Big Sur Campground and Cabins, Ripplewood Resort. If you can't find something in Big Sur within your price range, Carmel Highlands are about 35 min north and often have more availability. You could stay in Big Sur on Friday and Saturday night and go elsewhere for the rest of your trip... lots of possibilities. Let us know if you need any help or would like additional suggestions on this.
We have a room block at Big Sur Lodge that holds sufficient rooms until 90 days out, but if you want to stay elsewhere we suggest booking those ASAP! Big Sur doesn't have a TON of options for lodging, and things book up quickly! You can wait a little longer to book your flights, we highly recommend the app Hopper for an effective way to monitor flight prices-- it will send you a notification when it is the best time to book a flight for your trip!
No! Depending on where you stay, there may be Wi-Fi available through the hotel/resort, but chances are there will be NO internet access and NO cell service or data for the entire area. Print out anything you may need before driving into Big Sur, and check your email in the weeks before the wedding for all the info about where we will be and how you can find us at any time with questions. Plan on having your phone in airplane mode and just using it for the camera-- it's fun to unplug and enjoy the scenery.
Yes! We are planning an informal reception upon our return to Minnesota, look for details about this early in the summer. If you are invited to Big Sur and you can't make it but plan to attend the reception in Minnesota, just check the box on your RSVP that you plan to celebrate with us at home and we will get you updates.
The weather in September will likely be a beautiful 75 with little-to-no chance of rain. There's a chance it will be misty or foggy, but usually by the afternoon it's all clear. A light jacket or sweater is suggested because it can get a little chilly especially at night. Check the forecast before you get there since you won't be able to pull the weather report without internet. The dress code isn't strict, but since it's such a small affair you will most likely be in all of the pictures- wear neutral colors/patterns and stay away from denim- but that's only a suggestion and all we really care about is seeing your smiling face!
