After seemingly endless swiping and a dud date or two, Elicia and Jon saw “It’s a Match!” take over their respective online dating screens. After a few days of exchanging pleasantries and your classic “what do you do for work?” questions, Jon asked Elicia to meet in person. Meeting for their first date at Gezellig, Jon waited outside like a gentleman. Upon entering the restaurant, they were requested again and again by wait staff to have their coat checked. After numerous declines, this became the ice-breaking joke every first online date hopes for, and their chatter commenced.
An anniversary posed the opportunity for the perfect proposal cover up, as Elicia and Jon had planned an indulgent celebration day in downtown Ottawa. Elicia began to beg days before to exchange gifts, as she’s never been particularly patient with gift giving. To her surprise, Jon withstood her pleas and insisted on waiting until the anniversary day. The day finally arrived, and the celebrating couple checked into Andaz Hotel. Once in their room, Elicia insisted a gift exchange as the first priority on their to-do list. To her surprise, the gift was a book. She was told to turn slightly away from Jon as she turned the last page and saw cartoon Jon down on one knee. "Elicia, will you marry me?" was written on the page. Turning to Jon in disbelief, she saw him knelt on one knee. "Elicia Eleanor Kirk, will you marry me?" he asked. "Is this happening? Is this really happening? Is it? Seriously?" each question responded to with a "yes, it is happening!" Teary-eyed and in a delighted shock, she said "YES!"
