This is where we went on our first date, although it was not our original plan! Without boring you with the details, we had dinner and a great conversation. We left as new friends and eventually when we decided that we were dating, we claimed that evening, 9/18/15, as our first date.
This is where Antoine proposed and Derinda said, "Yes!" Known as the crown jewel of the Dallas skyline, Reunion Tower is set 50 stories high above the city landscape. You can visit the observation deck and get a panoramic view of the city or engage in various activities.
If we took you on a Dallas tour, the African American Museum would be one of our favorite stops. Located in historic Fair Park, the African American Museum is a one-of-a-kind in the Southwestern Region devoted to preserving and displaying African American artistic, cultural, and historical materials. The museum features one of the largest African American Folk Art collections in the US.
Located in the Dallas Arts District, this 5.2-acre urban green space offers a multitude of things to do including free classes and concerts. Food options include dining at a 4-star restaurant or eating from a variety of delicious food trucks. The park is located across the street from the iconic Dallas Museum of Art. Take a romantic walk under the lights at night and enjoy the beautiful Dallas weather as we like to do.
Located in Oak Cliff and known as the Brooklyn of Dallas, Bishop Arts is located 2 miles away from our home. We like to walk there often on the weekends, and although it's about a 30-minute walk, Antoine doesn't mind because he enjoys Derinda's company so much. The Bishop Arts District is home to over 60 boutiques, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, theaters, and art galleries, many of which are independently-owned businesses.
Human rights are something we care deeply about. The Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum tells the story of the Holocaust, the emergence of international human rights following the war, and the development of human and civil rights in America. Its mission is to teach the history of the Holocaust and advance human rights to combat prejudice, hatred, and indifference.
Know for its wall art, food, DJs, and live music, Deep Ellum is always happening. As one of Dallas’ first commercial districts for African-Americans and European immigrants, Deep Ellum is one of the most historically and culturally significant neighborhoods in the city. Check out one of its many rooftop bars and take in the Dallas skyline.
We come here about once a month! The Dallas Farmers Market is one of our favorite places to purchase plants and local products from small businesses (particularly black-owned - ask us about our all-natural toothpaste). It also has Antoine's favorite Caribbean food spot to fix his oxtail cravings.
