Antoine was launching youth development programs in Dallas in the Spring of 2015 and through a community recommendation, he presented at South Oak Cliff High School. It just happened to be that the assistant principal in charge was Ms. Derinda Hunter. Wanting to continue building a strong relationship with the school, Antoine met with Ms. Hunter to discuss additional program opportunities. She was excited about the opportunities for her students, while Antoine believed it was his irresistible charm that sealed the deal. At the end of their meeting, Ms. Hunter asked if there was anything else she could do for him. Antoine took the opportunity to ask if she knew any professional single women in the area. Little did she know that he was secretly wishing for her to be that professional single woman for him, and little did he know, she was screaming inside, "I'm right here!" Antoine then became a part of Derinda's group of friends that would occasionally hang out. In September of 2015, Antoine was supposed to meet with a co-worker to discuss a project, but the meeting was canceled at the last minute. Antoine and Ms. Hunter had a few missed attempts to hang out and discuss work, so Antoine took the opportunity to invite Ms. Hunter out for drinks. Because she took over an hour to meet Antoine, they missed happy hour and he offered to wine and dine her instead. Towards the end of their night, the conversation shifted from business to personal and Antoine expressed his contentment about being single and not having the responsibility of having to think or worry about someone else. Antoine was so engaged and mesmerized by Ms. Hunter, that they were the last to leave and actually closed down the restaurant. A week later Antoine found himself thinking about Derinda and wondering how she was doing and how her day was going...and that's where their whirlwind romance began.
Derinda and Antoine moved into their home during the summer of 2020. Wanting to be creative and include their new home in the proposal, Antoine had a banner made with "Will You Marry Me?" and hung it out over their 4th-floor balcony. To celebrate their 5th anniversary, Antoine made plans to take Derinda to Reunion Tower. While there, they used the binoculars on the observation deck to see if they could get a good view of their new home. To her surprise, Derinda noticed a sign on their house. Thinking it was the property builder who had placed an advertising sign there to attract more buyers to the community, she asked, "Why is there a banner on our house?!" To keep Derinda from getting upset, Antoine jumped in and said, "I think it says, will you marry me?" He got on his knee, presented the ring, and she said "YES!"
