Bar Harbor
Its hard to put into words all that Bar Harbor has to offer. You pretty much cant go wrong. Dining, shopping, whale watching, scenic tours, the Shore Path, the possibilities are endless.
Park Loop Road
As close to a Grand Tour of Acadia National Park as you can get. This 27 mile loop is easily accessible from Bar Harbor (Park Pass required, some locations may require a reservation) and offers amazing views and great points of interest along the way.
Cadillac Mountain
Want the best view on the island? Located inside Acadia National Park (Park Pass and Summit Reservation Required) Cadillac Mountain is the tallest mountain on the island. Take in amazing view of Bar Harbor and surrounding sights.
Jordan Pond Restaurant and Trails
Up for a good meal, some shopping and an easy hike? Located inside Acadia National Park (Park Pass Required, Reservations Recommended) Jordan Pond House Restaurant and the adjacent hiking trails are a great way to experience Acadia National Park without overexerting yourself. The Jordan Pond Full Loop Trail is 3.4 miles and does a, you guessed it, full loop around the pond.
Northeast Harbor
Bar Harbor might be the largest town on MDI, but it's not the only one with charm. Northeast Harbor is home to restaurants and local shopping. A great way to spend a quite afternoon.
Sargeant Drive
Sargent Drive is a road cut into the side of Somes Sound. This 4.4 mile drive offers incredible views of the sound that bisects Mount Desert Island.
Thurston's Lobster Pound
There are many lobster pounds both on and off the island, but Thurston's is our favorite. Located about 30 minutes from Bar Harbor, Thurston's is an authentic Maine lobster pound. Dine above the harbor as lobster boats come and go.
Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse
Take a trip over to the "quiet side" of MDI and visit the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. If you are heading to Thurston's for lobster, this should be a stop on your journey.
Somesville
Somesville is the earliest village on the island. The view of the sound and the arched wooden bridge make for great photo spots.
Kebo Valley Golf Club
A full 18-hole golf course just a few minutes outside of town. Play on a challenging course through the hills of Mount Desert Island. The Links Pub is also a great place to grab lunch!
