Travel (Voyage)

Here is some information to help you in your travels.

Flight

Dublin Airport (Aéroport de Dublin)

This is the airport most people fly into. Flights are usually overnight from the US so you should try to sleep on the plane as it will be morning in Ireland when you arrive. If you feel up to it, you can take a day in Dublin and tour Grafton street, Temple Bar, Guinness Storehouse, Trinity College (the Harvard of Ireland) and the Book of Kells, to name a few.

Flight

Cork Airport (Aéroport de Cork)

If you prefer, you can fly into the west of Ireland. This airport is technically closer to Waterford Castle than Dublin airport, however it is supposed to be about the same drive time (90 mins) to get there from either. Neither of us have flown into Cork before so we can't really speak to the accuracy of that or the ease of travel from there. Last we checked there were no direct flights into Cork. The west of Ireland has great coastal sites like the Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Moher.

Rental Car

Rental Cars (Voitures de location)

Dublin, D, Ireland

If you are in the US and have a Costco membership, sometimes rental cars can be considerably cheaper booking through them, so it doesn't hurt to check. Regardless of where you book your rental car from, you will need rental car insurance, but if you have a credit card that offers this, then you will want to go that route. Just don't forget to print verification of insurance to show the rental car office at the airport.

Travel Note

Driving in Ireland (Conduire en Irlande)

Note that you will have to drive on the opposite side of the road as well as the opposite side of the car! When looking at a map, roads that start with M are motorways and are like the highways in the US with multiple lanes. Roads that start with N are national roads which are more like county parkways. R are regional roads which are like our local roads. Those that start with L are local country roads which are very narrow, windy, and usually flanked on both sides by high hedges or stone walls. Take care when passing and pray that a tour bus isn't going by!

Train

Public Transportation (Transports publics)

For those of you who would prefer to look into public transportation, click on the view link to Ireland.com's page about their public transports. Another site that I ran across was the one below that gives you an overview of the different ways to get to Waterford Castle and their general costs. I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but it'll at least give you an idea of what's available. https://www.rome2rio.com/s/Nearby-Airports/Waterford-Castle
