We did the float a few years ago and loved it. We packed up some drinks in a cooler which we kept on the floaty and made sure to put our phones in a waterproof bag. If you have water shoes that would likely make it more comfortable to get in and out of the channel. The float starts at Coyote Cruises on Riverside Drive and slowly drifts from Okanagan Lake all the way down to Skaha Lake. It can take 3-4 hours to float the entire length of the channel so make sure to bring sunscreen and a hat. If you don’t want to float the whole way there is a mid-way stopping point at Green Mountain Road. You are welcome to use your own floatie. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own floatie, you can rent one at Coyote Cruises. They have everything from single tubes to 12 seater floating islands. They also operate regular shuttle busses, to bring you back to the start once you’ve finished your Penticton Channel float. You can find more information at https://www.coyotecruises.com/.
This winery quickly became one of our favorites upon first visit. It's a smaller winery with a more intimate tasting room that has gorgeous views of the lake. The service was incredible and they let us taste every single one of their wines (unlike every other place we've been to). The staff was so friendly that the even drove us to the next winery on our tour after learning we couldn't find a cab/Uber.
Awesome Bike trail along the canyons and on a historic railroad. Bike rentals available on site.
One of our favorite (and fanciest) wineries to visit. We recommend going for a tasting (which includes a mini tour), but if not, you can still access the store and property grounds which is beautiful. You can book your tasting on their website. Near the bottom of the clock tower there's a barrel with a glass top you can look through that looks into the cellar underground.
We did this hike just before sunset, brought some camping chairs up with us, a picnic, and mosquito repellant! We watched a gorgeous sunset from up here where you can see all of Kelowna. Easy hike; 1 – 3 km Dilworth mountain can be seen from almost any location in Kelowna and offers some of the best views of the city. Access from Hwy 97 heading north by turning left on Spall Road; this turns into Glenmore Drive. You will turn right at the lights for Summit Drive, climb the steep hill and turn right on Chilcotin Court, you will see a parking lot on your right hand side.
We used this company for winery tour which included a shuttle bus from each winery. They may even be able to pick you up at your hotel and bring you back afterward depending on where your hotel is. They also offer boating wine tours which we have yet to try! You can find more info by visiting their website (click on the button below).
A 27-kilometre trail on Okanagan Lake from McKinley Beach to Bertram Creek Regional Park. The trail is along Kelowna's shoreline and many buoys guide you along the way. Paddle by over 20 beaches and parks, three waterfront resorts, two bird sanctuaries, and downtown Kelowna. If you want to explore part of the trail or test your stamina and paddle the whole trail, it's up to you. There are kayak/paddle board rentals at many of the beaches, including Okanagan Beach Rentals at Rotary Beach. Not all beaches around Kelowna are sandy, some are rocky, so you might be more comfortable wearing water shoes if you plan to explore.
This is probably one of the busier beaches in the heart of Kelowna. They have inflatable obstacles on the water for kids to enjoy. Bring a towel or chair to lounge on the sandy beach. They usually have food trucks nearby for a snack or you can head into downtown kelowna which is a 2 minute walk from the beach.
We rented a boat with friends and went boating on Okanagan lake, it was an unforgettable experience. We also rented a wake board and tube to attach to the back of the boat which made it that much more fun. Fun fact: this was Mia's first time wakeboarding and she was able to make it up on the first try! There are multiple boat rental shops to choose from including Kelowna Boat Rentals, Okanagan lake boat rentals, Sunwave Boat Rentals, and many more. One of the best ice cream spot in Kelowna, located in the downtown core by the water. On hot summer days, you might find a long lineup outside during peak hours. Our recommendation is to grab an iced cream and go for a walk by the water for some great views.
