FAQs

The Wedding Website of Daniel Nellis and Suzanne Schmidt
We can't thank you enough for traveling to Charleston to share in this special time with us. Below is more information to hopefully make your stay in Charleston an amazing experience. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions/concerns!
Question

Are children under the age of 7 invited to the wedding ceremony & reception?

Answer

As much as we love your little munchkins, we want this to be your night off/weekend away. Should you choose to bring your baby for the weekend, we are happy to recommend local babysitters so you can enjoy the wedding ceremony and reception as a date night with your significant other. Children are welcome to attend any of the other events taking place during the weekend. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

Question

What’s the attire for the wedding?

Answer

We recommend formal/cocktail attire. Ladies - the ceremony will be in grass so we recommend wedges/shoes with thicker heals to make sure they don’t get stuck!

Question

Should we rent a car for the weekend?

Answer

This is totally up to you and depends on your agenda for the weekend! Charleston is a very walkable city, and all wedding activities will be downtown and a quick Uber ride is all you need to get anywhere you want to go. If you would like to explore the local beaches (Folly, Sullivans or Isle of Palms), they are all about a 20-30 minute uber ride away or you can decide to rent a car for the weekend. If you decide to rent a car, check with your hotel about parking. Parking on the peninsula can be limited as there is mostly metered street parking that is first come, first serve, with a few parking garages that charge by the hour.

Question

We get the amazing food and culture, but what else should we know about Charleston?

Answer

Charleston has tons of things to do and explore. You can learn a lot about it's history by taking a horse-drawn carriage ride around the cobblestone streets or walking ghost tour which we personally know are always entertaining! You can take a tour of several beautiful plantations all about 25 minutes from downtown, go kayaking or paddle boarding on Shem Creek, explore the historic market, walk down to the battery, or spend the day out at any of Charleston's beautiful beaches. You really can’t go wrong!

Question

What's the deal with Charleston's beaches?

Answer

Charleston is surrounded by water and has amazing, free, public beaches within 20-30 minutes from downtown - Folly Beach to the south and Isle of Palm & Sullivan's Island to the north. Isle of Palm is a long flat beach with calm waves. It's more of a residential/family spot. Sullivan's is the same vibe but also has some restaurants (like Po's Tavern!) to break up your beach day. Folly beach is where the college kids go to surf and hang out. It's a great beach spot with restaurants/shops in a cute little downtown beach strip. If you visit Folly, we recommend getting some lunch at Taco Boy - it has lots of seating and an awesome back patio. Get the trio, you won't regret it! :)
