Percival's Island Natural Area
This beautiful park area on the James River is gorgeous and just a short walk from the Craddock Terry Hotel! It's lovely - even in December!
Liberty University
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Liberty University! This is the school Dave and I work for and where we got our Master's Degrees (Dave also received his undergraduate degree here). The campus is beautiful and will be decorated for Christmas around December 2! I am honored to work on the 2nd floor of the tower, which is open year-round for visitors to enjoy the view from the top floor! The beautiful campus is well worth a stop!
Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre
The Snowflex is near Liberty University and a short drive from downtown Lynchburg. The lodge offers stunning views of Lynchburg and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Snowflex also offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing year-round (except ironically when there is actually snow). If you're looking for some winter sporting or some stunning views, this is a wonderful stop!
National D-Day Memorial
The National D-Day Memorial is located 30 minutes from Lynchburg. It's a bit of a way out, but an excellent stop! It's far better than any of the memorials in Washington DC. If you have time in town, I'd highly recommend checking it out!
Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest
This is Thomas Jefferson's summer home, located right in Lynchburg! It's a bit of a drive from downtown, but is worth a stop if you have time!
The Anne Spencer House & Garden Museum
Anne Spencer was a well-known Harlem Renaissance poet. Her house and beautiful garden are located right in downtown Lynchburg.
Riverside Park
Riverside Park is a short drive from Downtown and, in addition to being a nice place for a walk, is also home to a train engine and the remains of a boat that sunk in the James River. A perfect spot for some fresh air!
River Ridge
River Ridge Mall has recently been remodeled and is a lovely place to walk around (especially if it's cold outside). The mall also houses Lynchburg's movie theater and Seaquest Aquarium. Plus, Dave and I highly recommend eating at Papa Gallo (Mexican food)! Dinner at Papa Gallo and a movie is one of our favorite date night activities!
