our story

"Do you need a partner?"

6:30am, on an already scorching summer autumn morning, Agnes Scott College's soccer team stretched in preparation for a nerve-wracking Day 1 of pre-season training for the 2012 year. Out of 10 new first-years, it was Hallie that Dana walked over to and delivered the sentence that started their story, "Do you need a partner?" They would both be needing a partner for 120's—a grueling training exercise that involves sprinting the entire length of the soccer field (120 yards) within 20 seconds and returning to the other side within 60 seconds to turn around and do it again...10 times. Your partner records your times, hands you water, and encourages you throughout the process, and then you switch. Hallie was quaking in her cleats. Dana, despite being a senior and captain, was quaking in her cleats as well, just hiding it a bit better. Hear Dana tell it, she thought Hallie looked as scared as she was and wanted to spare her the agony of having to ask for a partner. Hear Hallie tell it, her anxiety went from a 10 to a 25 when a senior with green eyes, blondish-light brown hair ("I regret that decision"--Dana), and a dazzling, mischievous smile turned to ask her a question. That was 9 years ago. These two queens made it through two college graduations; first, second, & third jobs out of college; adopting a 50-lb Husky-Shepherd with anxiety named Azazel; a 400sq ft apartment (fluff-ball Zae included); two summers in Colorado (one long-distance, one together), at least 15 music festivals and concerts all together; exploring dozens of countries; grad school; and the house buying process. Whew! The theme of their relationship has always been two teammates on an adventure, and what an adventure it has been. They hope you come to love and cherish their story as much as they have. If anyone is interested, Hallie made 9 out of 10 of her 120's and Dana only made 7 out of 10 of her 120's, but Hallie recorded her score as 9 because she was already so smitten.
