This is where Molly works the front desk. Take a tour any day of the week at 2:30pm. (Call in advance, as tours can be cancelled based upon availability.) Tours last about 1-1.5 hours. A smokejumper will walk you through all the functional areas on the base, show you a film about smokejumping, and IF the plane is available, you MAY be allowed to get inside!
Idaho and Hot Springs go hand-in-hand & there is no hotter spot than Burgdorf Hot Springs! (See what I did there?!) Check their calendars for music at the springs, or just make a day of it. Burgdorf is about an hour's scenic drive from McCall. Stop into the McCall Ranger District (102 W. Lake St., McCall, ID; M-F 8:00-4:30) and pick up a "Warren Auto Tour" audio disk, enjoy a short hike to Josephine Lake, venture to Warren, ID and grab a drink at The Baum Shelter, then head back toward Burgdorf and and then soak in the large pool, nestled among a collection of old Idaho cabins. Burgdorf use to be the local bathhouse for miners based out of Warren, ID. (They could find a little extra "lovin'" from the ladies who stayed at the hotel as well.) Burgdorf is a local fave!
There are multiple rafting companies which will take you down the Salmon River (which we love!) or through Hells Canyon (the deepest canyon in the country!) We recommend checking out www.mccallchamber.org for a list of some favorite companies. Salmon Raft is the only company which will have you meet up in McCall (at their brand new boat house!) and then drive you to Riggins & back! If that's your thing, than check them out and say hi- the owners are friends of Molly's. If you'd rather leave from Riggins, check out a few of the companies down there... Grab breakfast at Cattleman's and enjoy a post-rafting drink at Seven Devils!
While we tend to prefer our hot springs served with a side of winter, Gold fork is a nice option for dipping your toes into our natural springs! A short little drive along a winding creek will get you here, just make sure you bring cash, as no cards are accepted! If you are like us, and you prefer the freebie pools tucked away in the woods... Just ask us about Trail Creek hot springs or 16 Mile springs (where Nick proposed!) We'd be happy to give you directions! ...Head's up: Natural springs abide by natural rules: Clothing optional.
Ice Cream Alley: Mountain Sized Scoops! It's a McCall MUST! Treat Yo'self to the waffle cone. Trust us. It's worth the wait in line. (Head's up... There's a misleading sign from a corner business "Payette Dream" trying to lure you there for ice cream. Pay no attention to the poachers: Ice Cream Alley is the only place to be!)
Molly worked here forever and ever and ever.... Your eyes will never get tired checking out ALL the things on the wall (Look hard enough, and you'll even find Molly in a photo or two- a HUGE honor!!!) This is a great place to grab a bite, because the menu is huge and there is something for everyone- from great steak, good burgers, fish & chips, salads and pasta. The cocktails are ALWAYS strong and priced right.
